So. I have lost 11 pounds, out of about 27 I need to lose total. I know its a huge accomplishment, I know I should be happy, but all I can think about is how far I have to go still. I actually feel more daunted now than in the beginning when I had 27 to lose!! I dont know if its some kind of self talk like "you got this far, why are you not already further along? there is still sooo much more to lose!" I dont know....I just feel my goal is in the distance. Mini goals are great, maybe I need to re-evaluate or start a reward system for every 5 or 10 lbs? does anyone else feel this way?

I am not really in the same boat but conflicted with my goal.
When I start here I lost 15lbs in 2 months. I remember the first week I was losing steady and it was a great motivator. I sorta fell away and stopped counting calories for 3 months and gained 9lbs I figured once I got serious and back on track it would be a shock to my system and I would start losing like I did before but it just isn't happening that way. I weigh every day, I need that motivation but it is starting to wear on me In the last 4 days my weigh has not moved at all, not even .1lbs.
I also upped the weight I want to lose so instead of my original 14lbs left to lose I now have 19lbs because I figured a more aggressive goal might kick me into gear.
I like the idea of small mini goal rewards.
I guess the best thing to do is keep at it! I mean if I give up again I might as well just give up totally. I want to lose weight so the only way to achieve it is work hard and when that doesn't work, work harder.
No pain no gain ( gain my skinny self that is) I guess.0 -
Give yourself a treat each time you lose 5lbs. I'm going to treat myself to a bead for my Pandora bracelet every 5lbs after reading your post. What about a new piece of make up? Or a 3 hour pamper in the bath? Go on girl ... you can do it !!0

Also being that you don't have a lot to lose you will probably have to work harder...sadly this is what I have read.0

I love the bracelet idea!!! and thanks guys for your responses we can do this, we just have to get in the mindset and stick through the conflicted moments.I am almost tempted to re-set my ticker and start over my weight loss here, like maybe if I feel like I am back at pound zero with 17 to lose that would help? has anyone done this?0

I lost 16 pounds and I have about 60 more to lose and I know exactly how you feel. I just remember how terrible I felt when I wasn't doing anything to get healthy and it helps. Also, I try to take it one day at a time it doesn't seem so intense that way. Good luck!0

Go shopping for a new article of clothing after you've lost 5 lbs. A new, smaller pair of pants or a smaller shirt does wonders for your motivation. Congrats on losing 11 lbs!0

I think what makes it hard is that you know HOW HARD you worked to get that first 10lbs or so off, and then you realize that you still have a lot of hard work ahead, and your body is tired! That is how I felt after the first 10 and 20...BUT, I could still "taste" skinny! I wished after 10 or 20 lbs that I could be done with this whole charade already! And I had so many people say "You look good, don't lose any more weight!" And I would have loved to listen to them, but I knew if I did, I wouldn't be happy with ME, knowing that I could have pushed harder.
So, YES, do a rewards system!! Picture yourself in that new outfit at the end of your goal! Buy yourself a new shirt, or piece of jewelry ever 5 lbs or so. JUST KEEP GOING!!!0 -
I know exactly how you feel, in the past I went to WW and lost 10lbs and thought, wow I look great now, because I lost so quickly and noticed a difference in a couple of weeks (lost 6lbs in my first week on ww) I thought I looked better than I really did. So I stopped going and put the 10lbs back on in a nanosecond. Soooooo when I started MFP my initial goal was 10lbs, it was a slow loss and I loved the site, and when I got there I extended my goal a little, then before I knew it, 14lbs had gone, so I stretched it a little further and then 18lbs were gone and so on! so I definitely think for some of us, having smaller goals works best, I know for sure if I told myself I was going to try and lose 30lbs I'd be gone 20lbs ago!
I also try to make it a way of life and don't deprive myself, yesterday was my weigh in /free day, so I had wine and chex mix and ice cream and fun!! I've made logging a habit and now I don't think about it too much, it's just what I do every day.
Do you think smaller goals would help you? do you have people around you to suport you also?0 -
I know exactly how you feel. I lost 13lbs the first month and have 30 more to go. I was doing great and thought I would kick it up a notch and have started C25K and Bobs Bootcamp on the alternating days. My butt is killing me and it hurts to walk. You would think that it would expedite my weight loss, but for the last week barely a pound. I am really frustrated about how slow it is going even though I have begun to exercise for the first time in a few years. I'm trying to keep positive but feel that the exercise is only causing a pain in the butt, literally. Setting 5 lb increments seems so futile when I have so much more to lose. I would appreciate any advise to getting through this and giving me hope for those that have lost the final 30 lbs. I would love to say "you'll get through it" but am having my doubts. I'm with you sista!!!0

Go lift two 5-lb bags of flour or sugar or something like that in the grocery store (or at home) and think about the fact that you used to carry that much more weight around EVERY DAY! Also, here's a blog with a picture of a woman holding a model of 5 lbs of fat - imagine that you got rid of double that (assuming you mostly lost fat.) http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/features/health/theskinny/blog/2008/02/the_challenge_fat_it_aint_pret.html0
