Old habits are dying hard.

Good day to you all!

I'm having some difficulties. I've been in recovery for an eating disorder for quite a while. As many on here may know, during the stage of recovery, many recoverers find themselves binging quite a bit. I basically binged for three months straight on fruit, and I'm trying to stop the habit entirely.

My gym results are beginning to sink downward. I'm a vegan and with the majority of my calories coming from fruit, I'm not getting enough protein. What I am getting enough of is calories. I'm trying to make my diet more regular and add in more nutritional sources but fruit binges keep getting in the way, even today :/

So far my plan is to buy pre-portioned containers of watermelon and cantaloupe so I don't end up eating the entire melon. But sometimes I feel like the issue is that I wait too long in the day to eat (intermittent fasting). I wake up at 5:45 am and don't eat until 1:30 pm. Would eating earlier help? I'm not sure :/

Does anyone know how I can stop this? I'm tired of gorging all the time :/ it hurts me.

You have some good strategies for curbing the binge eating.

Can you work any vegetables into your diet? Red bell peppers, cucumbers, spinach?

Red bell peppers and cucumbers are good carriers for hummus.

Maybe a parfait with chia seeds and fruit? Or fruit and quinoa?

You're also binge eating some very water dense foods - maybe something with more satiety will help. Bananas, or apples, maybe.

    You can do it!

Are you getting help for the eating disorder? This doesn't really sound like recovery. At the very least, it sounds like you could benefit from working with a nutritionist.

Personally, if I wait too long to eat after I wake up, I'm like a raging beast (low blood sugar maybe?) and I end up stuffing myself when I do finally eat. I prefer to spread my eating out over the day so I don't end up getting desperately hungry. Eating more nuts, seeds, beans and grains and other things with more fiber and protein earlier in the day might help. Are you seeing a dietitian?

Currently no, I'm not seeing a dietitian. I don't think I can afford one. I don't know why I'm being so difficult. I just never feel full/satisfied. Ever. So I stuff myself until my stomach hurts, every day. I don't gain weight (my plan is maintenance) but I'm miserable. I just don't know how to resist eating :(

What else do you eat besides fruit?

I would focus on upping your protein and fat while staying in your calorie goals, and see if that helps.

I don't think you are being difficult. I was looking through your other posts and It sure looks like you are still grappling with your ED. You said in one post that you are seeing a therapist for anxiety and he/she seemed uninterested in addressing your ED when you brought it up. Have you opened up your diary for the therapist or showed your posts? Maybe your therapist has no experience with ED and you need to find someone else? I'm worried that you need more help with your eating than we can give you here.
