GNC Total Lean Shakes, add in extra protein?

During my weight loss, I have been using GNC total lean shakes as a meal replacement for breakfast and sometimes dinner. They have 25 grams of protein. I think they taste great and I add in some fruit for even better taste.
I am on to my next phase of trying to add some muscle and definition and even tho I met my goal of 195 lbs (I am 6-3) I probably have another 10 lbs of fat to lose around my waist -love handles. I am thinking about adding some whey protein into the total lean shakes for additional protein. Maybe doing half and half and see how it tastes.
Anyone see any issue with this? Anyone do this before - how's the taste? I hear some people have actually gained extra weight around their mid section using whey protein shakes. I certainly don't want extra weight or bulk.

I actually just started using these shakes again and being active the sometimes didnt hold me over all of the time. I just starting adding PB2 and have seen a huge difference!0

I'm confused... are you in a deficit or am I just being stupid? If you're trying to gain muscle in a deficit, it isn't going to happen.
Whey doesn't make you gain weight around the mid section... however, it doesn't agree with everyone and some people can have digestion issues.0
