So I went to Whole foods last night with the intention of buying a prepared vegan thai "chicken" dish they have that I have been craving for days, but when I got there they were out. I'm on a vegan detox so almost everything from the hot bar was out as well. I found some vegan general tso's chicken at their deli. I knew it wasn't the best thing for me nutrition wise, but I'd eaten well all day and it was the only thing I could find. In looking for a side I wanted something with vegetables, so I picked their green beans with shallots. I knew it was a little on the oily side, but I got home, tracked it, and apparently it's 30 grams of fat??? I don't even know how that's possible. Just wondering if anyone has any tips for picking better foods when you're out and the nutrition info isn't readily available.

WOW! 30 grams of fat for green beans! Who would have thought.

As for advice, I try not to put myself in that situation. I try to look food up on MFP or teh resteraunt website before I even go out. I know this can be hard. At grocery stores (I go to wegman's) I ask if they know how the food is prepared. And if I'm in doubt I make a big ole salad with a low call honey mustatrd or oil and viniger.

I hope this helps. good luck!

sounds like the green beans may have been cooked in butter....or maybe the oils added the fat content....green beans normally are fat free!

Well, I have the 'eat this not that' book for resturants. I also go online before going to a resturant to see what food they have that I might be able to eat. The big thing to watch out for is sauces. That is usually what has all the calories. It is tough eating out. I usually watch my calories all day if I'm going out so I have enough left if what I get is over. Good Luck!
