First, talk to your doctor about what s/he recommends as your calorie intake to make sure your baby is healthy. Then eat a good, healthy diet that meets the requirements your doctor gives you. The most important thing right now is to do what's necessary for your baby's health. Check anything people here recommend with your doctor.0

don't concern yourself with losing weight right now. figure how many calories you need to maintain your weight (based on your height/weight/age, etc.)
in the first couple of trimesters, you only need about 100-200 extra calories per day in order to "feed" the baby's growth. in your 3rd trimester, you probably need to up that to 300 extra per day.
(keep in mind, 100 extra calories per day is like eating 1 banana)
you can exercise without any problems as long as you aren't in a high-risk category of pregnancy and your dr gives you permission.
all that being said, your SIZE has NOTHING to do with your ability to be a good mother. mothering comes from your heart, not the size of your body. i watched a documentary about a woman born without legs and she had 2 children and she was an awesome mom! she inspired me so much! she had to ride around on a skateboard or in a wheelchair. do not let anyone ever tell you that you must be a certain size to love a child! take care of yourself and the love will come shining through!!! :flowerforyou:0 -
First, you need to discuss your weight concerns while pregnant with your OBGYN/Midwife. Unless cleared to, do not diet while pregnant. Your baby needs a portion of the calories you consume for growth and development.
Typically, worry about losing weight after baby comes. Your weight has ZERO bearing on how well you parent your child. Although, that being said, being overweight/obese can increase some risks and complications. However, under proper medical supervision you should be fine and monitored well.
I used to be obese. I lost weight so that (as one of my reasons) I could get pregnant. I'm still considered overweight for my height. I'm now 24 weeks pregnant. I've continued to log my food and eat an appropriate amount of calories for myself and baby. My doctor knows that I count calories, but I am in no way restricting calories or actively losing weight. I will focus on that post-partum.0 -
You say you could be expecting? First get a pregnancy test and confirm so you can avoid any unnecessary worrying if you're not actually pregnant. You also don't want to delay medical care if you have concerns.
Then if you are pregnant discuss your concerns with your OBGYN. Early talks about your concerns will help assure everything goes smoothly. She (or he) can advise you on what exercises are safe and give you information on proper nutrition.0
