new to the gym

Hi all. I have recently joined a gym (yesterday) and was looking for advice on the types of things I should be doing whilst there. the last 2 days I have walked on the treadmill for an hour. Im looking to lose weight which I have gained back since being on prescribed medication. Any advice greatly received.

Definitely add some weight training in there. If all you do is cardio you will plateau quite quickly. Doesnt have to be anything intense or make your gym visits several hours in length. But add weight/strength training to your weekly routine will make a huge difference!

    Good luck!

How many days are you going to go to the gym? I'd focus on getting about a 3 day lifting routine in and doing cardio on the off days that you want to.

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend, 3 days of heavy lifting, 1-2 days of HIIT style cardio and maybe 1 day of low impact cardio. This has been my preference for years and have seen the best results with it. Big bonus is that i'm only at the gym for about an hour on lifting days, and hardly at all on cardio days so I have almost my whole day free.

    You been jumped in yet?

If not, you have that to look forward to. Remember, keep a wall to your back.

Do they offer any classes? Particpating in classes keeps me motivated and making some friends who expect me to be there week in and week out keeps me accountable. My gym offers a great cardio blast class, three abs classes a week and two weight lifting classes. I love to run and ride my bike so I do those things outside the gym but try to get there for at least an hour a day and taking the classes makes the time fly. Just suggestions
