TOP SIZES

What is the difference between Plus sizes and womens or misses sizes? Need to get some long sleeved tops for winter and am going to check out Sears.

Misses are cut more slender; womens are cut for a mature figure. Plus means size 1X and above. Which the cutoff generally is at size 14 or 16 as equivalent to 1X.

Thank you. I want something that isn't going to cling to my stomach, I want a little room. So many of the T-shirts are that stretchy stuff and that clings and I don't like that. Don't want my bumps and bulges showing. LOL.

My best advice for you is just try everything on! You can never be sure.

I will say XL and 1X are definitely two different sizes. A lot of people on these forums say they are not, but they are!

Okay, definitely stick to Women's styles, then. Plus sizes are often cut very different than "regular" numbered sizes which means a lot of trying things on. For example if you buy a size 14 in "regular" and then a size 14 in "Plus" oftentimes the Plus one is like 2 sizes larger even though it says the same number.

A plus size 1X is typically a size larger than a misses size XL.

A plus size 16W is usually similar to a misses size 18 in the waist measurement.

Of course as we all know sizes may vary from store to store and from brand to brand. Your best bet is to look up the size charts online and see what the measurements are for the sizes you're thinking about. Though even that is not foolproof since I wear a size smaller than my measured size at lane bryant or old navy, but exactly perfectly my measured size at Talbot's

Lane Bryant says their size 16 fits 42 inch bust 36 waist and 44 hip. Gap says that a size 18 will fit 44 bust 36 waist and 47 Hip.

This was actually what motivated me! I went to buy jeans 6 moths after my son... The womens (regular, whatever) Jeans went to a 16 and they were a little to tight. ... The Plus size were to baggy. I needed to lose weight or gain weight. LOL. Obviously the latter wasn't a good option.

The plus sizes add extra room for fat, especially in the abdomen, hips and thighs.

All are different, though. I'm wearing XL shirts now and they're getting loose. I'll be wearing Ls soon. But I have one 2X shirt that is still very clingy. So, it depends on the actual item itself.
