Change in taste

This may seem quite a strange thing to post about, but I've recently become aware of my change in taste over the past year.

I used to hate peas/sweetcorn - but now, I have them for dinner!
I hated nuts and peanut butter - now, I love them!
I used to hate water (weird, I know; I found it flavourless and 'stupid to drink') - now, I carry a 1L bottle of water and drink more throughout the day, as well as 1L at breakfast.
I never used to have breakfast as I didn't feel like eating - most mornings now, my stomach is rumbling.:drinker:
I used to love, love, love fatty meats, bacon and cheese (BURGERS AND LASAGNES!) and could tolerate spices - now, I am put off by these fats and can just about tolerate mild spices.

You get the idea....

I was just wondering if any of you have also experiences this? I know that our taste buds are replaced every 2-ish weeks, and hormones also play a part...but, nevertheless, I find this interesting.

How have your taste buds changed?

Yup. For me, when I lost weight I started by adding a lot of vegetables to my diet, And, I initially very much limited candy, sweets, heavily processed carbs.... Those two things caused a huge shift in my taste.

Now, 13 years later, I eat almost no sweets (except for dark chocolate), nor do I ever crave them.
And I dislike most junk food, especially deep fat fried.

    Best thing I ever did.

    Here's a suggestion !!

Make an instagram account (it takes 2 minutes) and go follow @LowCalFoodie

I just found them the other day and they post tons of low calorie food options that you can find anywhere!

It's such a cool account and they say they will be posting a ton more to come!!

    I hope this helps (:

I crave veggies and salads instead of ice cream! So strange to me still. I was never much for fast food and the like, but it's still a little odd to get a broccoli craving!

I realized today that I don't eat much fruit any more. That's something big that's changed for me. I love all fruits but I guess I don't crave the sugar any more? I used to eat bananas like crazy but I haven't had one in ages.

I just got a sense memory of the smell of steamed cauliflower, and now I want some.

My taste hasn't really changed with this weight loss. Years ago when I started cooking a lot it did, and I found myself craving vegetables and losing my taste for some super sweet things and fast food (not all, I still enjoy a diet coke on occasion and well-made desserts or ice cream). When I was eating poorly for a time (stress eating, putting off meals due to work and then ordering food rather than cooking), I found that I wouldn't think of my healthier meals when really hungry and definitely not crave veggies, but once I started eating well again that came right back and my palate adjusted to prefer my current style of eating. But that did not at all preclude me from liking some fattier or less healthy homemade (or, admittedly, restaurant made, if it's a good restaurant) stuff. Braised meats, for example, ribs, red meat in general, chicken with skin, bacon, strong cheese, yeah, I still like all that stuff.

Where I really had an opposite experience from you is on the spices. My diet hasn't changed at all with respect to spice and if anything cooking more low calorie food tends to mean that I'm more likely to play around with spices or make it spicy, so my enjoyment of those is as high as ever.

On fruit I find that I eat much more fruit than ever before. I'm really seasonal when it comes to fruit, though, so when I'm cooking a lot and going to the green market and all that I'll just impulse buy and then remember how much I love so much of the local summer fruit. I'm going to miss that--had a banana for the first time in ages the other day because, well, might as well if I can't have a fresh peach. (I do like bananas, though.)
