Hard time pushing myself.

Ok, so for a while now I have had a very very hard time pushing myself with general exercise or while at the gym. I am not entirely sure why, but for some reason I am only able to push my limits and give myself a real workout when I am at my martial art classes or while airsofting (like paintball only faster paced). Even if I try to get that mindset that the weight lifting I am doing is serious I still find myself not being able to push as hard as I can in the other two activities as if subconsciously I am telling myself that what I am doing is not serious enough.
I am kinda stumped.

i am rubbish without a plan... i completed insanity and P90X3 without skipping a workout, and am half way though a 10k training programme without missing a run, but if i just say to myself 'i'm going to work out for 40 minutes' its a usually a crap half arsed attempt!0

Is martial arts done in a group environment? Maybe you thrive on the group aspect more so? Is there someone you can go to the gym with? Does your gym offer any kind of monthly challenges or boot camp type workouts where they are for x number of weeks and they measure your progress? These kind of things help me. I usually need to have a goal set with a plan written out as to how I'm going to work toward that goal. But then again, I'm a bit type A.0

In my experience working toward a goal keeps me motivated. Whether it is training for a sprint triathlon, 5k or just wanting to lose an extra 5lbs I always have to have something to reach for, it keeps me on my toes. Also, any group activity where there is accountability seems to work well for me. I make friends and they expect me to work hard and I do the same for them. Meet some folks at your gym and try to make sure you attend the same classes every week.0

No goals, no point. Also, think about it. The better physical strength and speed you have, the better you'll be at martial arts, and airsoft.
When this guy goes to the gym, he has a hard time pushing himself too.

This is why I like group exercise. I can push myself harder without the mental strain of trying to artificially force it. Joining challenges on here (like the Hogwarts challenge, Walking Dead challenge, etc.) also gets me doing things I wouldn't have done if left to my own devices. Signing up for races is another way to push yourself, because you know you will be sorry if you don't get the training in.0
