shin splints and neck pains?

Okay Not a reason for me to stop my cardio, and i refuse to stop. does anyone have advice on how to keep the neck pain down after circuit training? its making my neck kink, and running for longer than 25 mins is giving me severe ankle pain and shin splints. Are these things I should see a doctor for? or maybe in time my body will get better with it, considering im so heavy right now [heavy for me] that maybe thats whats causing the ankle pain...just curious.

    Did you go from no running to 25 minutes? You need to very gradually increase time and distance and do walking/running intervals. Run slower, and gradually increase time running each interval. Neck pain is not normal, and you should figure out what you are doing to cause it. What exercise causes your pain?
  • i just wake up with neck pain the next day, I use to work out all the time without issues, I mean lots of insanity. I broke my ribs 6 months ago, just got released to go back to working out, and put on 30lbs in the meanwhile. maybe i sleep wrong at night, not sure. and I am doing a beginners runner program. its walk, sprint, walk, run, walk, sprint. and its in 60-90 seconds intervals
  • I think the neck pain is from your body tensing when you run - it's probably subconscious as you are focusing on the shin splints / ankles / ribs. When I first got back from a broken ankle & torn mcl, I tensed in all the wrong places.

    Don't skip warm up or warm down stretches - not just legs but full body.

    And never overestimate the power of a good floor stretch!

    Go to a running shoe store and tell them about your shin splints. Not wearing the proper shoes will cause splints.

    Your neck pain is probably coming from not doing an exercise correctly. Stomach exercises where you're supposed be using stomach muscles regularly end up in neck pain, because the person is using more neck than stomach muscles.

    With shin splints, the best thing to do is let them heal - don't try and push through them. You should get someone to check your running form, poor form can lead to injuries. Another thing to do is go to a running store and tell them about your shin splints, they will measure your gait etc and recommend a pair of shoes which fit your feet. If nothing else works, maybe seeing a podiatrist will open up new door ways.

    Stiff neck could come from incorrect form on exercises (this includes running) or perhaps you aren't relaxed while doing them?
