TDEE Help?

Hi!

So the past few weeks I loose weight and come down to about 143.2 lbs, I assume ill get down to 142.8 at least but instead the scale fluctuates back up to 145.7!? Not sure why, I honestly accurately track my calories, by weighting each item. Cant say I ate 10,500 calories the day before my gain either lol.

So I started to wonder if my calorie consumption is to low for how intense my workouts are. I rarely eat back my calories after working out unless im hungry. I eat on average 1200-1300 calories a day before exercise.
Diary is open

My Stats are
5'4
145.7 currently
21 year old female
student who sits a lot well studying.

based on what I found online my TDEE comes back as
2061 and BMR of 1409 calories...does this mean I need to eat 1409 calories? sorry new to this.

Forgot to mention I don't log my water, I met my daily requirements and than some however. only time I log a drink is if its not water or plain tea.

also if I eat 1500 calories I will gain. no two ways about it I stalled for 5 months because I was eating 1500 calories and didn't realize that's what it was

If you've accurately calculated the bmr for your lifestyle, then yes, you are eating too little. However, 2.5 lbs. is nothing in the grand scheme of things. This could be water retention duet to high sodium intake one day or time of the month another day. Don't obsess about one day's fluctuation. If you obsess, then use a tape measure as your unit of measures instead of the scale. You can also average out 7 days' worth of weight and use that as your official checkin weight.

Weight loss is not linear. A number of things factor in that can make you go up or down.

Do you weigh/measure your food? 1500 calories would give you a pound a week loss if you're logging accurately and have no health issues that could prevent you from losing at that number.

Your BMR stands for you Basal Metabolic Rate. That means the very minimum calories you burn since you burn them just being alive and breathing.

Your proper TDEE calculation without exercise is 1691. You should subtract 20%, which leaves you at 1353 calories for the day to lose consistently each week without exercise. If you exercise, add those calories into MFP and eat back 30-50% of them depending on what your needs are.

Thank you everyone for your help.

I do have a thyroid problem, 1500 is to much.
And I wouldn't consider it a fluctuation...its happened three times in a row now over the period of a month. Its very strange and its an actual gain because I have to work to get it off, it does come off easy however so its not muscle either.

Thanks Mizroxy, I will be trying that to see if it helps!

If you are not tracking weight over time as a weighted average, keep in mind that your data isn't going to be accurate, anyway.

A jump on the scale is nothing. The trend is everything. If you don't know how to make a chart with a trendline in Excel, get a nerd buddy to help you out with it.

Your weight WILL fluctuate! This I know as a matter of fact! I weigh between 103 and 106 pounds... and although I hate to admit it, due to my OCD's and the fact I was morbidly obese at one point, I weigh myself two maybe three times a day... (that is why it is an OCD!)

First, in the morning when I get up after using the bathroom before consuming anything (even a sip of water to take my daily meds) I weigh myself... this number can be anywhere between 103 and 105...

Second when I return from work before eating dinner I will weigh again... I feel on track if this number remains around 105 or less...

Third is seldom, just if I am eating foods outside my normal diet plan (I tell myself this is to stay on track!).

I have been doing this for over two years now... I have enough data points and trending to assure you your weight will fluctuate.

Another point to ponder, due to our age difference... I do not share the monthly cycle changes you experience. That said, your weight WILL fluctuate. You are young and your body is ever changing. Give it time, stick to your goals and you will achieve success!

edited to add... I have a thyroid problem as well. I was diagnosed with Graves disease 14 years ago and as a proactive measure my thyroid was irradiated and no longer functions. I have been (and will remain on for the remainder of my life) thyroid medication since diagnosis and treatment.
