Meat and weight loss?

Hi I have been on my diet for about a week now, probably the longest I've lasted lol, been eating bran flakes for breakfast, normally a brown bread sandwich or a salad for lunch then chicken and veg, turkey and veg, ham salad or fish and veg for dinner and for a snack usually like Special K mini bites, rice cakes, fruit like oranges apples and grapes. I'm going out for a meal tomorrow with all my friends from school so I am wondering, is steak ok to eat? Or a gammon steak? Which is better? I am going to the gym before it and going to keep within my calories that day too just want to pick my best option. What is the truth on meats anyway, what can I eat and what can I not?? Thanks!

You can eat food. Don't eat non-food items.

Its not a matter of what you eat, but how much when you factor all the calories together.

I'd eat the meat that I prefer, but toss the packaging in the trash. That's the only non-edible part.

I like chicken breast, pork ribs, and flank steak, so I eat those. I do not like liver, pig feets, or beef tongue, so I do not eat those.

    Pretty much.

I'm not sure why you couldn't eat steak...eating steak or not eating steak has absolutely nothing to do with weight control.

Weight control is about energy balance...a calorie is just a unit of energy...you consume less energy than your body requires to maintain the status quot and your body has to dip into stored energy (i.e. body fat)...you eat a balance of energy and you maintain...you eat a surplus of energy and that excess energy is put into storage for later (i.e. body fat). It has nothing to do with whether or not you have steak for dinner.

If I couldn't eat steak...game over. Just game over.

As weight loss goes, only calories matter, not food.

For health reasons, red meat is better left in the grocery store. Consider it a rare treat. Lean, white meats are much better for you. :)

This. I love steak and have lost lots of weight eating it, along with chicken (usually cooked with the bones, often dark meat), fish, pork, and lamb, among other options.
