WLS: The Bad & The Ugly?

I have struggled with my weight and weight loss attempts for so long now, that sometimes I start to think about weight loss surgery as an option for myself. I know that a lot of you on MFP are very much against WLS, and not to be rude, but I'm not looking for opinions on whether or not I should consider it. What I'm looking for is real life experiences from those who have already had any sort of WLS. I see the positives from it, such as massive weight loss, better quality of life, and control over food. What I never actually get to hear though, is the bad experiences. Not saying that you would change anything, but if there is anyone out there willing to share their experience of the bad & ugly sides of WLS, I would be very grateful. I just am curious of what the risks really are, and how often things do go wrong. I know this is very personal, so thanks in advance to anyone willing to share, and if not, I understand that too.

I haven't had WLS, and I know you asked for personal experience. Sorry for the hijack.
for me, I think WLS falls into the same category as fad diets - it's a quick fix that doesn't teach you anything.
I know I got fat because of years of bad food and exercise choices. I have realised that to lose the fat, I need to change my thinking, care about what goes in my mouth, eat to fuel and nurture my body, and get off my *kitten*.
If you do decide on WLS - all the best, I hope it goes well for you. Part of the battle is psychological, you will likely feel better about your physical appearance, but will you know what you have to do for the rest of your life to maintain your slimmer body?0 -

My sister-in-law had it a year ago and she admits it was one of the worst experiences of her life, mostly because of the pain she was in for the first month and a half or so (there was a complication and they had to go back in), but she's glad she did it. She's now 4 1/2 months pregnant and was considered high risk during the first trimester due to the surgery.0
