Just starting the atkins diet and wondering who has done it and with what kind of success.

  • horribleeee. my sister did it a few years back, granted she did lose weight, but was miserable the entire time and then once she stopped it, she gained it all back and then some. everyone needs carbs in their diet! I'd suggest looking for a new diet regimen!
  • Loved Atkins and lost 16 lbs; however watch your cholestoral. Unfortunately mine went through the roof with all the meat, cheese, and eggs that you have to eat. Stick to lean meats, 2% cheeses, and egg whites. Good Luck!!!

Why not just change your eating to healthy foods and correct portion sizes?
  • I didn't do Atkins specifically, but I do low carb, and as long as you don't go over board it works. You have to continue to count calories and don't use it as an excuse to eat 3 steaks a day. But the official plan, if you're following it, starts to reintroduce low glycemic carbs gradually as you progress and at the end you should still be low carbing it.

I think naturally people should only be eating 2-3 servings of carbs a day. It's not uncommon for people to do Atkins and then binge on carbs when they are done, thus gaining it all back.

What Knanns said. I did Atkins, lost 30+ pounds (this was years ago and the details are fuzzy) and then gained 40+ back over the next year. Consider Primal Blueprint, South Beach, or Protein Power Diet as alternatives or ways to expand your thinking about low carb.

Oh, and your breath will smell like *kitten* on Adkins... Fair warning.

From what I understand restricting something in your diet just doesn't work and isn't good for you. You need to eat healthier overall.
