Ironically, despite me being overweight now, I had an eating disorder a few years ago. It took me over a year to overcome, involving several hospital visits and weigh-ins to make sure I was putting the weight back on. The best thing I can suggest is speak to somebody you trust about it and go with them to speak to your GP/Doctor about how to overcome it. Anorexics who consume very little calories a day can't immediately go back to eating thousands a day or it'll be too much of a shock to the body and can cause serious problems. You have to slowly ease your way back into eating 'normally' again and your GP/Doctor should be able to create a suitable eating schedule/plan to allow this to happen. I hope this helps you or whoever does have an eating disorder if it's not you who you're referring to. It's very hard to overcome but it'll destroy you if you don't get out of it.

If it were me, and I thought that I had an eating disorder, then I would immediately talk to a specialist...not my family doctor, but a nutritionist. They would pin point exactly what's going on, and they could also give me healthy options on how to overcome whatever is going on. It's much safer than simply asking friends or family who are not trained in such a way to help. But, by admitting that you believe something is wrong, you have already taken the first step to preventing future issues!

It depends on what resources are available where you live, but I would start with a therapist/counselor, preferrably one who specializes or has experience with eating disorders, but even a "regular" therapist is a starting point. If you're in a decent sized town/city, you should be able to find someone fairly easily. A therapist will be able to work with you and refer to you a more focused specialist, if you need to be. There are many mental health clinics with sliding scales if money is an issue, and most insurance plans cover some mental health care.

Here is a website with a free hotline and good information on eating disorders. http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/get-help-today/
