i'm Fred, i'm 33, i'm Irish, live in england with my girlfriend, and am currently in a situation that requires me to lose some weight, well, a lot of weight. i weight about 460lbs. yep, thats not a typo, thats what i weigh. about 10 years ago i got myself down to about 250, and then steadily put it on again. i kept making excuses about losing weight, always starting tomorrow. then in november i picked up a pretty nasty chest infection. i hadnt been to see a doctor in about 15 years, but the chest infection got so bad i had to register with a new doc and go. i was scared that he find all sorts wrong with me, but thankfully, other than a pretty nasty chest infection he gave me a clean bill of health, other than being fat. but i was thinking as i came home, i'm 33, i dont need to be afraid of the doctor, and sooner or later if i kept up the lifestyle i was living, my clean bill of health would be gone. i know i'm pretty lucky to not have any major health issues given my size, but that aint going to last forever. i used to think i would have to get myself fit enough to join a gym, but thats just daft, so after i shifted the chest infection, i started with myfitnesspal on my mobile phone, started keeping a food diary and i found it really helped. i've joined the gym, started swimming, and taken the first baby steps to losing this ridiculous amount of weight. in a sadistic way i'm sort of looking forward to it all, at other times i feel daunted by the whole thing. but since i started using the app on my phone, on Dec 29th, i've managed to keep myself below the calorie intake they have recommended, and i've managed to lose 10lb since then. so i have joined here to get inspiration and encouragement from people who are going through it or have gone through it, and hopefully in my own way inspire and encourage others.

You can do this!
You HAVE to do this!
You have a long, long, long time to live and you don't want to live it at 460 lbs! :noway:
I am 51 years old and I did it....in less than one year.
...and if I can do this ANYONE can!
Good luck in your journey...:drinker:0 -
