So today as I was napping (trying to get rid of my cold) I caught the 1st 15min or so of Dr. Phil. Now I am sitting here thinking am I the only one who hasn't heard of the 17 day diet? Now I do NOT believe any "diet" works...its all about life changing habits and hard work, but I would I would love to know more about this diet WITHOUT spending $45.00 on the book.......has any one read it or know about it?

It has been on all the "doctor" shows. None of them tell you what the diet entails, just that it works and "you can do anything for 17 days". Dr. Oz has something on it again later this week I think. Another author trying to re-invent the wheel I think.0

From what I hear, it's based on 17-day cycles (presumably something like 17 days of "clean" eating, then 17 days of high protein, then 17 days of something else, etc. etc.), rather than just 17 days and you're done...0

I found this online--Thought it might answer some of your questions
The 17 Day Diet Weight Loss Program was debuted on Dr Phil’s show and then on The Doctors at the beginning of December. Interest soon gathered pace and search engines were being abused as hundreds of thousands of people tried to find out what the 17 Day Diet is all about. Was it the newest magic bullet in weight loss or just another fad diet offering a quick fix?
According to Dr. Mike Moreno, a medical practitioner in California, who wrote the 17 Day Diet initially as a plan to help people avoid holiday weight gain, it is not a quick fix but a diet designed to help you take off weight quickly and effectively.
What Is The 17 Day Diet?
It’s a diet based on calorie shifting or eating in cycles, the main aim of which is to confuse the metabolic system. In other words you change the way you eat every few days or weeks. This method constantly keeps your metabolism guessing at what is next and it never settles into a state of regularity, with the end result that you experience increased weight loss.
How the 17 Day Diet Works
On the 17 Day Diet, you have to adjust how you eat every 17 days, changing the combination of healthy fats, proteins and carbohydrates that you eat. The diet also focuses on clean eating, which means you cannot have any sugar, processed foods, fried foods or alcohol.
Whilst this method may work in the short-term it falls short of helping people make behavioral changes towards their eating habits and could lead to irregular eating patterns. That’s why so many dieters end up being yo-yo dieters because they are bouncing from one fad diet to another.
While cycled eating as promoted in the 17 Day Diet might help you lose weight in the short-term, as with other fad-like diets it won’t last because it is an unrealistic way of eating that can be maintained long-term. As soon as you stop the cycled eating method you become at risk of gaining back the weight you worked so hard to lose.
Permanent, long term weight loss can only be achieved by healthy eating, calorie control, execise and a change in mindset and attitude towards food. The recommended long term weight loss program is based on consuming 3 meals and 2 snacks a day, with a calorie count between 1,200 to 1,700 for women and 1,500 to 2,500 for men, depending on your current weight, how much weight you have to lose, whether you are active and if you are male or female. This formula has be tried and tested and works every time.

The book is only $25.00 regularly, but right now it's on sale for $21.50. I was going to get it but after reading the introduction I decided it's not something I need.
The diet has 4 17 day cycles. The first is a detox/cleanse where you give up sugar, alcohol, carbs and bad fats. It's designed to get your body to stop storing fat and start burning it. The second cycle resets your metabolism by once again changing up your diet. The third cycle reintroduces some carbs in the form of whole grains only, no refined "white" carbs. The fourth cycle is the maintenance cycle where you apply everything you have learned from the diet to continue to eat healthy while still getting to indulge in your favorite foods in moderation.
If you're already used to eating healthy, it's not something you need. This is basically the same thing I'm doing already, though I'll be making a few changes by cutting out added sugar completely and only eating whole grain carbs. I'm sure I won't be seeing the 10-12 pound weight loss that is expected in the first 17 day cycle, but that's ok for me. I want to be able to exercise more than the 17 Day Diet allows.0 -
Weird. Doesn't sound like anything viable for the long term. Who is going to realistically cycle their eating habits every 17 days for the rest of their lives? I'd go mad for sure.0

You only cycle when you want to lose weight - when you don't want/need to lose you eat clean 5 days a week and get 2 "treat" days.0 -
Also, the 17 day diet doesn't restrict how much exercise you do..quite the opposite! The plan STARTS with a 17 min workout for those of us completely out of shape and as you are able to add additional 17 minutes to your workout routine.. So if you already had a workout routine going into the 17 day diet..you could definitely continue what you were doing!!!0

Why is there no definite answer as to how many calories are being eaten on this diet anywhere? I have been looking and looking and can't find anything. Have a friend who started this and she has already lost 5lbs in 3 days!? That doesn't seem healthy to me considering she isn't obese or anything0
