  • Umm,

I don't really think that carbs/fat/protein ratios mean an awful lot as long as you're cutting your calories.

But if you're worried just cut down on the bread, pasta rice and potatoes.

    Good luck!

I was going to say the same thing - cut out your refined carbs like bread, pasta etc. Stick to your carbs from fresh vegetables, beans and fruits. Good Luck!!!

The general recommendation from the Institute of Medicine Food and Nutrition Board is 45-65% of your total calories from carbs. Here's the math based on your calorie needs.

    1780 x 0.45 = 801 calories / 4 = 200 grams

    1780 x 0.65 = 1157 calories / 4 = 289 grams

I'm a little slow at times Tonya :O)...are you saying that if my goal is 1780 cals my carbs should be 200 or 289?

She's saying that your goal should be somewhere between those 2. Not less than 200, not more than 289. The exact number in between doesn't really matter.

Somewhere in between. MFP is great, but they only give you one number to aim for, when really we all have a range. And I've yet to meet the person who can hit that exact number consistently every day. ;) The numbers I gave you are the standard range. So, even though MFP gives a standard of 55%, you can really range 10% above or below that and be in the range.
