potato chip trip

Day 6--MADE IT! Ate chocolate but no chips and chocolate is not one of my favorite things. So no danger of making IT my chip substitute. Breaking this habit will happen. I will make it my 30 days. Most experts say 21 days but the occassional guru says that it can take 21 to 30 days to break a habit. I am giving myself the full 30 days --I want to be free. Is that not a song. I want to be free....I want to not want chips when I am tired, when I am sad, when I am angry,or when I am happy. I want to be free...I want to know that my emotions:::no matter which emotion::::will not cause that need for chips. Sounds crazy when I say it out loud but it is my habit. I am sure that if anybody is working on beating a habit they can relate--they just have to put their habit in place of my chips and know what I am feeling. Positive thoughts to all of us who are struggling with our habits.

Congrats on making it to day 6! Chips are good and we all want them but no matter how light they are or how much whole grain they have in them, they are just terrible for you. Waste of calories and and other stuff. I get the Rold Gold pretxel sticks sometimes when i have a crave for chips. Its not the same but it makes me feel normal going down the chip isle to get them, lol wwierd I know but it works. I like Reduced Fat Wheat Thins too. They have crunch like chips and are not as bad. I dip them in measured amounts of Light Daisy sour cream. Chocolate ...oh chocolate! Have you tried the chocolate Quaker Rice Crisps? They are good and crunchy and come in different flavors, salty or sweet ones. They are much better for you too!
You can make it to 30 days! Congrats!! Have a great day!

I know what you are going through. I am a Potato Chip addict too! Just say the word and I will start craving it. I no longer keep them in the house. And suprisingly I found something that helps they are called Sensible Portions Veggie Straws. They seem to do the trick for me. Now I have to work on the Popcorn Addiction. Ugg :grumble:0

Oh sweetie, I totally identify with you. I never thought someone else out there would have the same unhealthy obsession I have for chips!
When I started my "Lifestyle Change" (never say diet...) I tried to make sure that nothing was forbidden. If I had the calories available and all my nutritional needs were met, I could go ahead and satisfy a particular craving. This method worked with everything - except chips. I found that I had to completely cut them out of my diet for an entire year because I simply could not stop eating them. Instead, I substituted air-popped popcorn with 1 tbs. butter and parmesean cheese. The whole snack is about 220 calories and I learned how to eat my bowl slowly - rather than just shoving it in my mouth while I watched TV.
One day, I saw that Trader Joe's had a Salt and Vinegar baked chip available. I bought the bag and immediately broke it down into 1 oz. portions. So far, I have been able to choose a bag of these chips as a snack safely and sanely. I still have to watch to make sure I don't go overboard and try to eat more than one serving, but that is how I have started inching chips back into my life.
Best of luck to you, ducks. You are smarter, stronger and more amazing than any bag of chips will ever be.
