Should I change my starting weight?

I started on MFP at (EEK!) 280 pounds, but my actual heaviest weight was (even bigger EEK!) 294 pounds.

I am approaching my halfway point at 50 pounds gone from my MFP starting weight (my goal weight is 180 pounds - I am tall with a very large build and remember being very happy and healthy at that weight, although I may adjust once I get there) and will be happy to see my little stars on the happy side of my ticker, but I have been thinking a lot lately about updating the ticker to reflect my actual weight loss...

Then again, I didn't really work very hard to get that first 14 pounds OFF. I would say I just didn't work quite as hard at keeping that first 14 pounds of fat ON. But the fact remains that I WAS a whopping 294 pounds and NOW am a (slightly less whopping) 233.5 pounds.

So, honest opinions - I am taking a vote: to change, or not to change?

  • I say change! You did lose more than what your Ticker says.....and even though you say you didn't work hard to get the first 14 pounds off....you did! And that is awesome. The beginning is always the hardest!

    You are doing great!

Was your "bigger weight" just before you started active weight loss or was it couple months before? If first, you can add it, maybe it will motivate you more, but it will motivate others certainly. But if it was long before you started active weight loss, you could leave it out.

Edit starting weight to when you actually started (before coming on to MFP). That way, you'll get the "big picture" when you reach your final goal weight. Remember: You're a winner and....

whatever makes you feel better. perhaps just flip a coin. sometimes we tend to overthink simple decisions.

Cory, change it for sure! You are talking with friends here on MFP. I waited until today to change my original weight from 145 (which I was at in August 2010 when I joined MFP) to the 220 that I started at. This is the place to share, motivate and support each other. Yes! Full disclosure is the way to go.

I would have done it sooner but I needed some technical help on how to make the change. Make the change for sure!

How do you change your starting weight? I lost 6 pounds in the three months before I started MFP. Granted it is only 6 pounds, but... total I've hit 20 and my ticker says 14... and I'd love my ticker to show the whole picture

Ugggghhhh... Now I am changing it back. I will probably change it when I am closer to my goal (maybe) but, after looking at it for a few minutes, I just think that I am soooo close to the halfway point in my actively-working-to-get-healthy journey that I almost feel cheated of seeing my little stars reach the happy side of my ticker. I think I'll keep the HW on my signature, though. I know these things aren't really important in the scheme of things, but I almost feel like I cheated. Sigh...

    Thanks for your feedback, anyway!
