I recently purchased a duel trainer.. elliptical/bike.. I love it! When I did the Elliptical at the gym, I burned around 250/300 calories. per 30 minutes..

Online research stated the following:

"General Estimates of Calories Burned with An Elliptical Trainer:

- 150 pound woman, 30 minutes of elliptical exercise: 387 calories

- 180 pound man, 30 minutes of elliptical exercise: 464 - 500 calories

- 120 pound woman, 30 minutes of elliptical exercise: 310 calories

YET, when I use mine at home it states I only burned 107 for 30 minutes... Could this really be actuate?

I'd say it depends on the intensity. I typically estimate 100 calories per mile. So, if I use the elliptical at an intense enough level to travel 3 miles in 30 minutes, I estimate around 300 calories.

my suggestion is to get an HRM to tell you your calorie burn. machine's are inaccurate.

I don't think so. I go hard at mine at according to it I take 35 minutes to burn 100 calories. It makes no sense to me, since I weigh 230 pounds, there is NO way I am only burning 100 calories. Mine you don't put any info into so I don't really trust it. I use the amount mfp suggests I burned and then eat about 1/2-3/4 back (just in case of error)

It depends on the intensity of the exercise, in my case, maintaining a rhythm of 130-140 heartbeats per minute I burn 100 cal. every 12-15 minutes. (I use a HRM and I'm 147 lbs.)
  • I was wondering this too! My eliptical says I burn 200 calories for 20 minutes. But I feel like this is far too high...
  • Yeah, It's so confusing... My Hubby said to use what MFP suggests as well but, I don't want to feel like I'm cheating.
