Calorie burn in cold weather

I was wondering if I actually burn more calories then are reflected in the log since I am walking at a 3mph pace in 18 degree weather through snowy sidewalks up and down small hills. What do you all think about calorie burn in cold weather vs warm weather?

Same in either. Calorie burn is all in your effort. Not temp.

One could argue that you would burn more calories in the cold because your body has to fight harder to stay warm.

In other words. No one knows. If the tempurature does make a difference in calories burn...it's not enough to measure.

I was thinking more about the accuracy of the exercise log in mfp. I definitely think if I had a bodybugg or fitbit it could log that I am working harder but I don't so I have to rely on the database for an estimate.

HRM is the best way to go as far as estimating excersise calories. I cannot find mine right now, but from experience I know what I'm burning.

As far as tempurature goes. I have better runs in warmer weather because I'm wearing fewer clothes and my muscles are looser...or at least they feel that way.
