BMI with a Big Bust

I feel like my BMI is inaccurate because it doesn't account for a larger chest size. When I loose weight, my bust seems like the last place to loose it. I don't think I'm as overweight as my BMI suggests, and if I had a smaller chest size, I'd be "less overweight". Is there anything out there that accounts for a larger bust when calculating how "overweight" I am?
Thanks!
And any of you that have a similar issue, please share your thoughts. Those of you that don't, a big bust is not all its cracked up to be.

  • Yeah its not.

Although saying that my bust shrinks when I loose weight. Only problem now is I go to the gym 3 times a week, I havnt lost any weight yet but have lost 2" overbust, almost 3" underbust, 1/2" waist and 1" from my hips.

I am not tracking weight loss anymore, because I do exercise at the gym muscle weighs more than fat so tracking weight is not realistic for me.

    Good luck

You can track body fat %?

BMI is flawed in many ways. A friend of mine has under 15% body fat and because he's muscular, it shows him as being overweight. Body fat % is much more accurate!

I've always thought the same thing, as I have a large chest as well. I've known two women with VERY large breasts (in the G range) who were otherwise a pretty healthy size (I'd guess 6-10 pant size) and who both had breast reduction surgery. The doctors only removed 4 lbs of tissue from each. Yes 4 lbs is a lot, but it's not so much that it's totally going to throw off your BMI.

That said, BMI isn't always the ideal measure or target for people - though it seems to me that most people use that as an excuse and like to think their body shape is different for one reason or another (including myself).
  • Thanks Everyone. Lizzgeorge, that information about the breast reduction is very interesting; the idea has been on my radar for a while now. A friend of mine said it was the best thing she's ever done for herself; no more back aches, no more poor posture, no longer fitting clothes to her chest size (the widest part of her body), and feeling less self conscious. My goal is to get to a healthy weight, maintain it, and more actively pursue the procedure if I'm still struggling with my chest size.

Meggonk and scagneti, I looked into body fat %, and I totally agree, much more realistic. That would be a great tool for MFP to include in their Tools section.

    Thanks!

Each time that I gained weight I swear it went straight to my chest first. It baffles me how they can inflate so much.
