measurement question

I noticed in MFP where you can take your measurements that there is an area for neck. This is something I've never measured. Is this most likely for men who need neck measurements for shirt size? Don't mean to sound dumb but as I said I've never seen this before. I'm also surprised that they don't have an area for arms.

They have an option where you can add arms, or thighs or whatever you want to measure. Gd luck!

I am military and for body fat calculations the use neck measurements. For a man the measure the neck and the waist, for a woman they measure the neck, waist and hips then calculate based on the measurements what your bodyfat percentage is.

I'm glad I got an answer to this too... I wondered the same because out of all the inches I've lost since April (34inches) I've only lost .5 in my neck...lol!

How does the military use the measurements to determine body fat? What is the calculation?

For males it is waist minus neck to get a circumference factor which is then based on your height. For females you add your waist and hips subtract your neck to get your circumference factor then based on your height. You would need the height factors sheet in order to complete the calculations. I believe if you Google "military body fat standards" or "AR 600-9" you will find the information on how to do the calculations.
