Your Bucket List - a strategic plan for living

Saw that wonderful movie with Morgan Freeman and the one and only Jack Nicholson - if you haven't seen it, you should rent it. Got me thinking...... Why make a "bucket list" of things that probably I won't get accomplished. Things that perhaps I can dream of but are not realistic goals?
What about things that are within my reach?
My list:
Start running (now)
Run a 5K (when it quits snowing)
Run a 10K (sometime later this year)
Run a half marathon (after I make it through the 10K)
Run a marathon (before I die)
Workout regularly - that means get up off my butt and do something active that burns calories EVERYDAY
Eat healthy - diets are for losers and they never work
Great quote by Jackie Gleason:
"The second day of a diet is always easier than the first. By the second day you’re off it."
Lose the weight - how much? Thinking a few pounds at a time cause with each pound I lose - I FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF!
One step at a time....
I don't want to grow up - don't want to grow old - don't want to give up.
Anyone else out there wanting to make a change in their life - want to lose weight - want to start running - want to take the first step with me?

I love that movie, we watched it on TV last night.
I haven't actually put much thought into it yet, I'll have to begin pondering that one
In the short term because I cannot run due to injuries I think I'll put swimming on my list. To get up the nerve to go to the local pool and do laps twice a week.0 -
Love your list !
I ran my first 5k in November. Then ran another the following week. I've ran two more since and signed up for a 10k April 2nd.
I want to do a half within the next year, possibly two or three halves before doing a full... but I want to work up to a full.
I'm working on the weight now... I'm 3# shy of my halfway goal !
make sure I stick to training for my runs...
be a positive role model for my kids.. show them that if I'm sitting it doesn't mean I have to watch tv or constantly have my hand shoveing food in my face.
good luck on your list!! just knowing where you're going is a great place to start!!0 -
Thanks for the prompt response to my post - I love swimming and oh what a great exercise. Was trying to work that in last summer a couple times a week to break up my workout routine and when it's 100 degrees outside, it sure beats running.
Stay in touch and let me know how you are doing.
One lap at a time....

Flora - you sound so much like me.
I ran my first 5K in November also and get this: I won a first place medal in my age bracket, was the last runner to finish, and won a turkey in the raffle. Oh, and of course got a T-shirt.
How did I do it? Pick your 5K's carefully - there were only about 30 runners, it was a small hometown Turkey Run and I was the only one in my age group. My daughter was also running and she got a first in her age group. Kinda got talked in to doing it - never ever dreamed about the end of the race. My goal was not to walk (which I didn't) and to finish. When I made the turn coming in to the finish and I saw all those people waiting for me, I just about took a detour thru the woods. But, you know they were all yelling and cheering me on and it felt so good, and so overwhelming to hear those shouts of encouragement that I forgot about feeling worn out - my feet were flying and I simply floated over the finish line. Now that's support and you know, most of those people were complete strangers.
You know what I put at the very top of my "bucket list" is that someday, sometime, somewhere me and my 3 kids (actually they are adults now with young ones of their own) can and will run a marathon together. They may be carrying me over the finish line but hey, at least I will be able to say - CROSS THAT OFF MY LIST - I did it.
And April 2nd must be a popular day for running - I have a choice between a 5K, 10K, or half marathon to run - so stay in touch and keep on trucking....

One of my favorite quotes....
"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."
