Hey guys,
I'm about to go on a 10 hour flight to singapore in a few hours! But, i always leave a plane feeling sluggish, dehydrated and always TOO FULL.
I've decided to bring a few of my own snacks, i have a protein bar and some plums, which i hope they let me bring on.
But i find it difficult to not overeat, as i lose track of times and when i'm supposed to be eating when they seem to bring out so much food and always one too many meals??
So any tips to keep me feeling not so sluggish would be great :)

I have the same problem...every 30 days i fly for 18 hours...recently..ive started eating only 1/2 of what they bring me..no matter what it is.....this helps....if you are a drinker...drink 1 glass of water for every alcholic drink you have...do some stretches and get some sleep..this all helps.

lots of water. :) cheese sticks? Hope you have a safe flight and good time.
  • Take an apple and an orange, they are easy to carry on and keep your blood sugar up and the apple will make you feel fuller longer.
When it comes to the meals, most planes offer a "vegetarian option" - may not be as yummy sounding as that meat floating in sauce with potatoes (whatever that meat is) but it will definitely be healthier.

You can buy "peanut butter and company" brand peanut butter in single serving pouches at walmart. PB is higher in calories but is wonderful on a slice of naan or pita, or on your apple! Plus it is full of protein!

Remember to start hydrating 24 hours BEFORE your flight, that is absolutely KEY. Drink nothing but water, pure clear water, for the 24 hours leading up to your flight and while on your flight. If you need coffee stick to 1 cup because it actually dehydrates you. Try munching down on ice during your flight too, it will give you the feeling of eating plus the hydration, it may annoy the people around you but....hey, you've gotta stay hydrated!
I'd start taking a vitamin C & B12 now too so you can boost your immune system.

Take a good book or plan to watch a lot of movies to keep your mind off of food.

    Have a safe flight!!
  • Most international flights will not allow you to bring any meats/fruits/vegetables on board.
BUT - You can purchase those items at shops / restaurants in the airport. Try buying mixed nuts / beef jerkey - they are not healthy but they are usually better than the alternative. For the dehydration I try to drink water, but that means going to the bathroom a lot.

I've never had a problem with fresh fruit and veges as long as you finish it or leave it on the plane (some countries won't let you bring it thru customs) Sandwiches, nuts, crackers, dried fruit can all pack ok too. Last time I went to Africa I requested the low fat meals...downside, didn't enjoy the only main course I was offered. Upside, I got applesauce and a bannana for a snack when everyone else got a kit-kat and a bag of chips.

Good luck! Fill your water bottle once you get thru security!

Thanks for all your great suggestions.
Eating healthy on a plane seems to be more about preparation. I've been keeping very hydrated this past week so i hope this helps. I'll also bring on my own water bottle that i can full up whenever i want. I just took a multivitamin and extra C, so hopefully i wont catch a cold.
Next time i'll request the veggie meal, but it's too late for that now.
I'll avoid the white carbs, as they leave me feeling really bloated, especially when flying and distract myself with movies and music :)
