taking care of body, mind, and soul

One thing I really want to do this year and beyond is to take care of not just my body but also my mind and soul. Last year was rough as my mom was diagnosed with cancer (with it returning just 2 months ago), and then my fiance and I broke up. As difficult as those times were, I am thankful for what I've learned through them. One of the biggest being the importance of looking after ALL parts of myself, as they all impact each other and thus my overall happiness. Here are some ways I'm trying to do that:
BODY
- MFP is awesome and I'm so glad that I found this site! The community is great too and I know that with our collective inspiration and encouragement, we can reach our goals and remain motivated. I just joined yesterday and look forward to journeying together.
- Just started with a personal trainer at the gym, who is fantastic. He did a fitness test on me and identified where I can improve. Am thinking of paying for a cardio test where they identify an individual's fat burning range - may be good so I know through my HRM whether I'm exercising effectively
- Would like to take pilates classes with the Reformer machines and wing chun martial arts classes
MIND
- Am reading lots of books on my much-loved Kindle, whether it's self-development books, chick lit, mysteries, or even books targeting young teens (thumbs up for the Hunger Games series!)
- Would like to read the Bible more consistently
- Playing fun word/puzzle games
SOUL
- Practicing gratitude
- Enjoying time with family and friends
- Taking classes in cooking and oil painting
- Experimenting with cupcake recipes and designing greeting cards
I think reflecting upon those things above will help me stay further motivated. Becoming healthier doesn't just involve eating better or exercising more consistently. I imagine that it also involves doing things that give us joy, and looking after our souls and minds too. Maybe this way I can finally develop consistent and healthy habits for life.

I think it's so important to remember to take a holistic approach. What we put into our bodies food wise affects our health and well-being as does the exercise we do, but so many people forget the other things we take in (the things we read, see and listen to, the thoughts we subscribe to) and all our other activities (actions, hobbies, behaviours) have the same affect. You get out what you put in - thank you for the reminder to nurture my soul and mind with healthy inputs and actions as well as my body x0
