pedometer calorie counting

so there i was working out, happy as a pig in the proverbial you know what. I started using a pedometer to count my calories and it made sense. I never trusted those stupid treadmills anyway. Then one day I got another idea and it made sense at the time. I started using a pre-workout supplement, and i liked the energy boost and the extra kick it gave the workout. It primarily has B-12 in it and no sugar. Then I noticed that the pedometer was showing the heart rate a little higher than normal (not unsafe) but i also noticed the calories were burning a little higher thats my confusion. So i pose to you my dilemma
So am I really burning that many calories or is it the juice filling my head with false thoughts?
And a side note, I use the calorie count that is showing when my heart rate returns to normal, is that the correct way to use the pedometer?
