How often do you guys eat bad foods...the foods that most people on a diet say are off limits? Just wondering, because I've had fast food everyday for the past week (staying in my calories, exercising, & getting in my healthy stuff in as well), & I peeked at the scale this morning because I started feeling guilty, & I've lost 3 lbs! So just wondering what other people's take on the "bad food" is...I just know if I deprive myself, I will fail.

I don't keep any food off limits- everything in moderation. It's when you forbid fods they become more desirable to you.
Sounds like you've figured it out- portion control and paying attention to what goes in your mouth
I do avoid sugar cookies- only because I can eat the whole pan.:laugh:0 -
girl I eat what i want! i dont really have anything off limits...the only reason i stay away from fast food is because i like to eat and if i eat fast food it takes away all my cals so i cant eat anything else!!0

During the summertime, I walk a few blocks to the ice cream shop and eat ice cream (my weakness) every Friday!
Hmm, let's see... otherwise, I let myself have little treats now and again (a fun size candy bar or 25 M&Ms) almost every day. The way I see it, 100-150 calories of chocolate 6 days a week is better than 3000 once a week if I go crazy and binge! :blushing:0 -
I eat bacon every morning. 2 slices nice and crispy then I crumble them and mix it up with grits and cheese0

You can still lose weight eating "bad foods". But, shouldn't the goal be to be healthy? Not just lose weight? You are fueling your body and mind with garbage. That's not to say I don't indulge in garbage too.... But, I wouldn't do it daily.0

It's my understanding that bacon actually isn't a "bad" thing if you get a good one, all natural, etc. The turkey bacon is low in calories, however, it's processed crap!0 -
A vast majority of the time, I eat wholesome, healthy foods. When I want something that doesn't fit that criteria, I plan for it and have some. I have found that the longer I eat mostly the wholesome stuff, the less tasty the non-wholesome stuff is when I eat it. Makes it really easy to avoid it more and more as time goes on.0

If you goal includes good health, I would avoid fast food except for the rare occasion because your health could very likely suffer from that! Have you seen Super Size Me? Fast food is (usually) dangerous, toxic stuff.
I like sweet treats myself, but will not eat them daily because I know my body does not need the extra fat and sugar. That is something I've had to work at, because I really do love chocolate. It is a major weakness, and I still treat myself here and there and try to limit it to dark chocolate.0 -
I eat whatever I want. No food is off limits, but I (usually) don't over do it. I primarily pick foods that keep me feeling and operating at my best. These 'feel good' foods are definitely what would be considered healthy foods, but I don't limit my choices.

I eat two squares of 71% dark chocolate several times a week. I don't think dark chocolate counts as a "bad" food, but it helps me get my sweet tooth fix.
I'll have pizza or fast food very rarely, but I don't forbid myself from eating anything. It helps that I live 30 minutes from the nearest fast food place.0 -
I eat fast food and junk food too, but try to limit it to at least once a week. I try to keep the majority of my eating on fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean meats.
I agree with not depriving yourself. If you feel like you are being deprived, that's when you set yourself up to fail.0 -
I don't deny myself anything. I just make sure to stay within my calories. I don't like to eat fast food because processed foods make me feel like crap, but if you're getting where you need to be go for it! We are all making a whole lifestyle change and if fast food is part of your lifestyle, then you're more likely to fail if you try to completely get rid of it. My old boss lost 60 pounds and she still enjoys her MacDonald's on a regular basis and makes no apologies for it.0

Thank you all for your responses! I definitely needed to hear this, to remember that this is not a "diet", it's a lifestyle change, & I know I'll never go the rest of my life only eating fruits & vegetables, lol. Nothing off limits, plenty of exercise, & as much "healthy" stuff I can fit in, but no deprivation. I can do it!0

I completely agree with this, but I also know how difficult it can be at first to cut out the garbage. Now that I have been eating healthy I don't really want the crap anymore, but it was tough at first to cut it all out. I can't even eat processed food anymore. I had a touch of stomach flu yesterday and had Campbell's soup and it was absolutely awful.0 -
If you have will power, "bad foods" aren't that bad.0

I also eat anything I want, no "diet food". But I limit my calories, so I don't want to waste them on fast food. It all depends on what it's worth to you...if pizza is worth 3 hours on the treadmill, go for it! Personally, I don't want to work that hard, so everything in moderation. Good luck!0
