I am wondering what workout program is the best for a person who is just getting started with a healthy lifestyle. I have always been real ambitious the first of the year, but then never maintain. This year I weighed the heaviest I have ever, so I decided to make a life change. I have started using mfp religiously and have maintainted a 1300 calorie diet. I have cut all junk and am very excited about the progress. I started at 230.5 and it 8 short days, I have lost 11 pounds. I know that I need to exercise, but am wondering what options there are for someone who needs to make it easy in my house. I won't maintain anything if I have to go to the gym. I am intrigued by P90X and Insanity, but what is everybody else think??

If you're into more of a cardio workout then I would pick Insanity. If you like to lift more than P90X would be a better choice.0

I was right around where you are when I started P90X. The 1st week is the toughest...even for fit people. You will work muscles you didn't even know you had. Survive the 1st week and you are on your way. I went from 235 when I started P90X to 190. My goal was 200. It works and you can do it. If you need help, support, motivation or guideance just let me know. I know it works.0

Well it depends on your fitness level!
P90X is definately advanced, but can be modified to make it more or less challenging. Insanity is extreme cardio. They're both awesome programs. Most Beachbody programs are great, especially since they come with the whole package - extra tools for nutrition etc...
Then you could always get other DVDs, I love Biggest Loser, Jillian Michaels dvds.0 -
Depending on your fitness level right now...if you haven't worked out at all in a very long time and your stamina isn't up to par, I would start out with the classic Power90. From there, depending on your goal, you could move into P90X or Insanity. Insanity is a lot of cardio and interval training where P90X is cardio/stretching and weight training. Good luck in your journey!0

My wife and I weren't ready physically for P90X, so we tried Power 90. This was Tony Horton's (creator of P90X) first workout series before P90X. It is a good introduction to cardio and strength training. It is a little repetitive and the videos are pretty generic, however, we both lost about 20 - 25 lbs each so far using that series. We have about 3 weeks left before we are done with our 90 days. After that we are going hardcore with P90X.
I've seen an Insanity/P90X hybrid, that may be something for my wife and I to consider once we have done a couple of tours of P90X.0 -
in doing insanity im starting my second week.
this is a very INTENSE workout
i started when i was 216pounds and ofcourse it was hard it was painful.
i gained strength withing those first 6 days and now in my second week im able to do better.
you definetly feel the results in that first week.
i recomend it its something that really gets your heart rate going and leaves you dripping in sweat and has left me satisfied at the end of the work out.
i recently bought a sports watch that keeps track of your heart rate and counts calories if you dont have one maybe you should look into getting one so that you can enter your calorie count on mfp when your done working out.
theres also turbo jam and turbo fire
i also purchased jilian michaels 30 day shred which comes with 3 levels of work out if you want to start at a moderate pace maybe youd like to check into that dvd =D hope this helps.0 -

Get a heart rate monitor. Best $$ you can spend on your journey to health!0
