I did the fit test for insanity about 2 months ago. Actually started the work out once and never did it again. As a matter of fact, i didnt even make it past the 1st 10 mins.....

I see threads of people popping up all over the place doing insanity, how are yall doing this? How did you start off and how much of the workout did you get through in the beginning ? I mean i know nothing is impossible but sheesh that workout is close to it!

Advice?

My advice is to work your way up to Insanity. If you try to go for the hardest workout from the get-go, you may only disappoint yourself and/or quit. Work your way up. Start off with Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, or Hip Hop Abs. Get yourself used to exercising, get yourself used to working up a sweat & get yourself more prepared. These I have mentioned will help you with endurance & stamina. Once you find these to be 'easy' or not enough of a challenge. Try Insanity then. It might be just what you need and you'll be surprised at what you can do after your body has been conditioned and prepared. Don't throw yourself into something, work your way up and you'll have better results physically and mentally.

I was too scared to buy it, so I bought Turbo Fire and it has kicked my butt (literally) I love that work out, but I think I want to try the Insanity, but thought about waiting until his new one is released.

I didn't just jump in though. I prepped myself for a whole month and 2 weeks for that workout! I was running everyday for a hour up until the time i decided to do it and it was still hard! I felt so outta shape and i had made amazing progress with my runs

Hmm, maybe try more cardio. Running is great but from what i've seen in those insanity videos, it wouldn't really help prepare for the intensity of that type of cardio (IMO). Hip Hop Abs is done by the same guy (Shawn T) and is very energetic & a good cardio workout. Just don't get discouraged with yourself. Everyone is different and you have to get conditioned for things. My sister lost a ton of weight a few years back and was an avid runner. She could run for miles at an extremely fast pace. She recently moved on to a class at the gym called Body Attack which is intense cardio, she's amazing at it. One day, she decided to come over and do the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred with me and she had to quit halfway through. She couldn't believe it. It's different intensities. It's a totally different work out from what she's used to. Your body has to have time to react.

Insanity is not an off the coach program but it can be done by anyone. Most newbies make the mistake of trying to keep up with the people in the video. If you could do that you wouldn't need the videos. You have to pace yourself and make mini goals and make small inprovements each week. You can do it but you may be better off starting with something a little less Intense.

That's what I thought. Just go at your pace and ease on up there. You can do it.

Exactly just do what you can do, and then do just a little bit more. If you have to stop in the middle, go ahead. Catch you breath for a few seconds and then try to complete the exercise. Most importantly don't give up, you will get better at it if you keep doing it.
  • Just stick with it. You barely got passed the 1st 10, okay....so pick up from there. See how far you can go until you're able to pass the 1st 10 mins. It's not going to be easy. It's not meant to be.
I understand where you are coming from here. I got only half way through my first workout of P90X and it was push-ups and pull-ups! It was crazy....I felt so friggin' out of shape and wasn't able to catch my breath. I tried to keep up with the people on the video, but soon gave up on that and realized I had to go at my own pace. Didn't make it through the whole video like I said. However, I had made up my mind that I was going to 'push play' for the next workout scheduled for the next day and that I was going to give it my best and whether I made it through the 1st 10 mins or 30 mins...I was going try. Now, I'm moving on to Turbo Fire and after that INSANITY :)

It's a matter of making up your mind to go 'mind' over 'body'. You're going to want to quick, but you have get that thinking turned around to stick with it.
Just stick with it. Do what you can DO and forget all the other stuff. Get the sweat up.

SN: Before starting P90X, I went on runs/worked out HARD on elliptical machines and treadmills...and I still got the pants kicked off me just from one day of P90X! Different workouts are going to challenge you differently...it's matter of doing them and taking on that challenge and breathing through it that's going to get those results we want! Go GET IT!
