Hi all,
This is my first post...
A little about me... 21 years old, 6,3 256 lbs was 276 May 1st
Have struggled a entire life with being over weight and have tried soooo many times to lose it and have had little success and then would gain it back.
Well i got in a contest with a bunch of people i play cards with and we all put up 200 bucks and who ever loses the most pounds before July 1st wins the bet... 15 have entered and i have 2 $500 side bets going. So since i have $1200 invested i WILL NOT QUIT!
I'm getting very stressed right now though because I'm in 2nd place so far and the first place guy has me by 12 lbs.
I want to kick it up a notch but really don't know how much more i can do.
First 10 days or so i did lean cuisine diet and had 3 a day and water and nothing else....and then i switched over and did the atkins diet for 1 week and didnt have a single carb but got very tired of eating the same food...I'm now back on the lean cuisine plan...i wake up and eat a south beach diet bar that has 19 g protein and 240 cals and around 1 pm i have a lean cuisine and then another at 6, ill eat small hand fulls of kashi cereal during the day if im hungry and drink pleanty of water. I jog 4 days a week for 2 miles and now want to start jogging 7 days at 3 miles but my shin splints hurt so bad where i cant.
I talked with someone last night and they told me lean cuisines are "empty calories" and arent healthy for you and im wasting my time.
its so hard to me to eat home made meals all the time because i get sick of grilled chicken and plain salad with no dressing. I dont eat eggs/fish. Today has been a really depressing day for me and i want to tap out but i cant let myself. Even after they competition i wanted to make this a life style and keep on going and eventually start building muscle.
Its so hard when because no matter how i diet im being told its wrong, no matter what i eat some how people will say its wrong..
doctors say i should eat 2500 cals a day...just is so hard to consume that much of healthy food.
Any advice...
(sorry for cluttered post, just writing off top of my head and probably left stuff out i meant to put)

Are you working out or doing any kind of cardio???0

I think that you've told yourself that there are so many foods that are off-limits to you when there are lots of things to try. Check out our recipes area, feel free to ask about some things. You don't have to just eat chicken: you can try some tofu, sirloin steak is actually pretty good for you (minimal fat for the calories), and you don't have to sacrifice flavor for a diet change. Experiment with olive oil, garlic, and different veggies. Getting your veggies (a lot of these are fruits, but they have veggish vitamins and minerals) isn't just about salads: there are carrots, eggplants, broccoli, bell peppers, squash, zucchini, onions, etc. And there are tons of ways to eat them. There are fruits - add a banana, and that usually sweetens any fruit salad without the addition of jello or whipped cream or sugar. There are a plethora of dense grains that you can experiment with.
I agree with the people telling you to stay away from Lean Cuisine and most frozen "healthy" dinners. I also tend to discourage no-carb diets because carbs are the most efficient form of energy for our bodies, and you can't metabolize fat without carbs. A low fat and low refined sugar diet or a low GI (glucose index) diet is probably the most efficient, healthy, and variety-friendly.
Also keep in mind that if you're exercising, you're also gaining muscle weight. This doesn't help with your bet, but it's something to consider in the long haul. Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat (a pound of fat weighs the same as a pound of muscle - it's ridiculous when people say muscle weighs more than fat) - but it is denser than fat, which means that what looks like a smaller bit weighs about the same as a bigger bit of fat. If you aren't working out, I recommend engaging in a regular cardio routine 45-75 minutes at least 5x a week.
Congratulations on being 2nd place at the moment, though! That's an achievement in itself!0 -
I joined CURVES 3 yrs ago and it has helped me to shed 25 lbs and 30 inches. You may want to check into finding a gym near you. Also have you looked into Weight Watchers? I know it did not work for me but it may be what you need to find other foods to eat. I now go to LA Fitness and Curves 6 days a week. I quit WW about a month ago. But I do know that I have all the tools I need to keep going with my weight loss. I did do the NO CARB thing for the past 3 weeks and I have lost 13 lbs. so far. I also went to see a Bariatric Specialist to help me with this struggle. After 4 yrs of chemotherapy I had gained 50 lbs. I am done 3 yrs now and I am still not 50 lbs. lighter. But I will keep at it. Good Luck to you in your struggle and I hope you win!!! If you ever want to chat feel free to EMail me at KMN927@aol.com.0

Welcome :flowerforyou: I never lost weight because of a bet, but I know that guys have an easier time loosing weight because of their genetic make up, women have more fat because their body's are made to have babies, menstruate and other things. OK there are some posts from Banks that talk about loosing weight the right way.( newbies read this part 2nd edition I think) I like fresh foods, I make almost everything from scratch, I even bake my own bread. I know that this is not possible for every one , but the less processed the better. On here are recepies ( under community)and you can also go to www.hungrygirl.com to get some ideas. Exercise is also important and if you put in what you eat on your food tab and put in what exercises you do it will give you a healthy way to change your lifestyle. But remember bad food + no exercise = problems.
I wish you success:drinker: , don't hesitate to ask questions, let us know how your doing and if you need to vent you will find supportive people.0 -
Thanks for reply....I just get so down sometimes and I'm going to try and make it a habit to come to this site when i feel like quitting and look for motivation.0

we did a biggest loser thing at work and i won $250, yay anyway my little advice to you is keep with it and dont try fad diets--lean cusines are great but i dont think you should do that 7 days a week and you should be eating green salads with them so they fill you up and you get your nutrients
i eat lean cusine for lunch like 3 days a week and i have lost 30 lbs--with walking and some weight lifting lots of fruits and veggies and fluids0 -
Its not just for the $ lol....It a win win in my book, if i dont come in first but lose 40-60 pounds then im going to be one happy camper. I think one of my problems is that i want it to happen over night and i need to stay patient. Its just been depressing lately when friends call me and say "hey we are going to the bar tonight" "hey wanna go camping for memorial day" etc etc and i have been turning these offers down and not living life the way i want to. I keep telling myself now that i have to make the sacrifices and come July ill be doing great and hopefully taking shirt off at beach and get a nice girlfriend0

You may be in some trouble if you don't push, push, push! :frown: First of all, to bet against a man for weight loss is a big no no! Like on the Biggest Loser---they go by percentage of body weight lost based on original weight because 1. Mens bodies burn calories different than women's bodies. 2. a man's lung capacity is larger, and so are their hearts so they don't tire as easily when working out, and 3. a mans fat stores are located in different places than a woman's and come off easier! :brokenheart: So, I would suggest that before July, you all discuss what's going to be judged: weight lost or percentage of body fat lost. Now, I believe you can surpass the odds! If he gains muscle, and you are going by weight lost by itself, then you might get a leg up on him! :flowerforyou: Good luck!0

Do you have a hot yoga or Bikram yoga studio near you?
Thisis the healthiest way to loose weight and reshape your body. It is great for the body, mind, and soul. If you weigh 250 pounds and you do a 90 minute class you will burn aproximatly 1700 calories.
It is hard at first but you feel so good after.0 -
Lean cuisines are full of sodium, so they make you retain water, giving the illusion that you aren't losing (as much) weight. Switch to simple, low cal meals you can prepare yourself with fresh ingredients. Good luck.0
