So I did a week of Weight Watchers...just to see how it compared to my calorie tracking. & with the new points plan, I could eat so much more than mfp advises me to eat a day. Like...at least 500-600 cals more. & I lost weight doing it. I notice I feel very deprived on mfp but on WW I'm much more satisfied- my problem with WW is it gives me TOO much flexibility I think...with all the extra weekly points I can have, etc. Cause then I feel like I can just eat & eat all day. So here's my question- I want to do mfp, should I up my calorie allowance (eating around the amount I would on WW) & maybe not be as deprived, or should I stick with mfp's allowance & train myself to eat much less & maybe lose weight faster...what do you think? Thanks for your feedback!

As someone who also did both, I think you can find a middle ground. Since you already feel that WW is helping you indulge more than you should (and eat more than enough to keep you full and satisfied) but feel that MFP is overly limited, you should set MFP to give you more calorie (by choosing less weight lost per week) or simply allowing yourself an additional couple of hundred calories per day, on top of what MFP suggests.

You can also "gain" more calories per day through exercise.

I, for one, will stick with MFP for now. I am counting exactly what I am eating, there are no "products" to buy, membership fees to pay or points to keep track of.

    Good luck :)

I,too, did WeightWatchers a while back. I just didn't care for the constant point calculation. I've been on MFP since 11/25/2010 and I find this site filled with supportive people who motivate me each day to lead a more healthier lifestyle. I love this site!

    Cheers!

I changed my profile to lose a pound a week and it upped my calories so that I have little trouble staying under. I couldn't do the 1200 calories.

Thank you for the advice liatvashdi, makes sense! :) I'm going to set my goal to lose 1.5 lbs a week & I'll get more cals by exercise.

NightOwl- very interesting article, thanks for sharing! I agree that you don't need crazy mathematical equations to figure out how much you should eat a day, etc. & I don't think you should have to buy certain foods to lose weight either. It all comes down to calories in vs. calories out. Mfp makes it simple for us :)

Yeah, it's important to remember not to rush to lose it all so fast. Take your time and make sure that what comes off, stays off. Just like gaining it didn't happen overnight, neither will losing it. Don't starve yourself because then you will feel deprived and will be more likely to quit altogether.

LOL...That was so ON the mark! It's so true about being at war with the food industry once you start a diet and how eating out...a necessity most of the time during the week...becomes such a collosal hassle! Thanks for sharing!
