My husband and I are going out to dinner tonight at a local Mexican restaurant. Not really sure what to order off the menu. Any suggestions?

Declare a cheat day and enjoy the flan! or have a taco salad and don't eat the whole shell. And stay away from the giant margaritas!
  • Fajitas -- and just eat the meat and grilled veggies.
Or a bowl of black bean soup -- you will feel very satisfied.
(And a bite or two of flan, of course.)

Fajitas! Order Chicken with corn tortillas...I ate that yesterday...the corn is just as good as the flour in my opinion....salsa isn't bad at all...just watch your portion control on the chips...or take some of the baked tortilla chips with you...I have a friend who does that...

Just get back on track the next day , stay away from the scales for a few days (soduim), drink plenty of water !

Enjoy , life is for living...

Tamales are surprising low in calories and I agree with the others fajitas without the tortillas. Have fun.

I always get the shrimp soup, if that is something you like, shrimp, veggies in broth, very good. If not chicken fajitas are good, with one or two tortillas.

Grilled fish tacos are pretty good. Just ask for sauce on the side if its a creamy one. Maybe get extra pico de gallo and enjoy
  • don't deprive yourself of a nice dinner out...just try and make healthier substitutions! for starters, ask for a to go box right away & divide your meal in half. chances are half will be plenty & you'll have a yummy meal for the next day & not have to feel guilty for eating so much. i always order the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas instead of flour & replace the extras (sour cream, cheese, and beans) with avocado slices, lettuce, and pico de gallo. ENJOY!

Not to call it a cheat day, but counting calories is really not a daily total. It should be considered an overall total in your life. If you are cutting 500-1000 calories a day for a week, consider you have a deficit of 3500-7000 calories over that period. Consider what dining out is going to do to that total. Not too much at all if you don't go completely nuts. So, if the above case were you, and you then went out to eat, and for the day consumed 2500 calories instead of, say 1500, then over 8 days you are still at a deficit of 2500-6000 calories.
Consider that you gain weight over months and years, so losing weight is the same. Keep track of daily values as a guide, but no need to fret if one day out of 7, or 30, or 365 is bad. Just make sure you can overcome a bad day with many more good days.

I'm all for declaring a cheat day. I think it's fine as an infrequent indulgence. Perhaps mitigate the damage with some time at the gym beforehand?

And uh ... in my experience ... the Mexican food doesn't exactly stay with you all that long ...
