Power 90 - Beginning a new journey

Hello. This site is excellent for keeping track of calories and other useful tools.
My son (16) and I both agreed that we needed to lose weight.
Someone suggested the Power 90 to him and when he mentioned it to me I was familiar with it from folks at work.
I bought it for Christmas and we both started on January 4, 2011.
I am 51yrs old, 244lbs, 6'5" (my 16 yr old son is now ahead of me at 6'6").
The only regular exercise I get is walking at lunch for about 30 mins. a few times a week.
3 years ago, I lost 35lbs in a diet competition at work (and won). I did this by following Bob Green's diet (was on Oprah) and doing treadmill and free-weights for 4-months. Unfortunately, I started taking "days off", and before you knew it, I wasn't exercising at all and back to eating my favorite junk foods.
The last year or so I started feeling aches in my knees using stairs, easily out of breath, and not having a lot of energy. I'm an emotional eater and have had a tremendous amount of stress in my life the last few years (family issues, economy, etc.)
Well, now I'm doing the Power 90 and one week into it, I've lost 7 lbs. already and finding my eating choices easy to make. No real cravings and feeling motivated! My son is still ravenous, so I'm trying to figure out what our calorie counts should be, etc. For myself, I feel good, but have noticed a little dizziness the last couple of days (I'm eating around 1800 calories). I just want to make sure I don't go into starvation mode and halt my weight loss progress.
So I have a lot to learn (am learning a lot on this site) and am excited to follow along on everyone's journey.
Good Luck to everyone! Stay motivated!

Good luck with Power 90. I loved the program and also did the Matser seiries and the power 1/2 for maintenance. It really help me get stronger. I felt really great and also proud of myself. You need to take pictures because it helps with the motivation. I did my calendar and I had also joined a thread here to check in every day are so and track my progress.
Not sure if I wil do P90X. I am doing a running program right now to be able to run a 10K in April... so that is taking up my exercise time. But who knows.
Anyway - good luck to you and your son!!!0 -
Congratulations on your success so far! I do Power 90 myself and really enjoy it. I think you'll find the combination of MFP and a solid workout to be unbeatable. I had a little dizziness, tiredness, crankiness during my first week too as my body adjusted to the changes but it passed. If you haven't already, you might want to go find some folks on the Team Beachbody message boards who started around the same time you did. I found it to be very helpful for my motivation. I'm starting Power 90 over again soon after taking some time off to rest injured shoulders (when Tony says to be careful about your weights, LISTEN!) and have the Power 90 Master Series waiting for me then it's off to P90X! You can do this, good luck0

Thanks lobster888. I did take pictures before we started P90, but I'm way too embarassed to post them. A picture sure gets you motivated.
Brent, thanks for the advice. I did sign up last night for the free version on Beachbody and got a coach. I'll have to see how that works. I'm a little concerned because he never did Power 90, which I know has different diet and exercise advice than others. We'll see how it goes. I was deciding whether to join a message board with a group of folks that started the same time I did. I think you convinced me to do so.
Thanks again and good luck to you guys too!0 -
No problem Mike,
Feel free to add me as a friend and I'll do my best to answer whatever questions you have if your coach can't. Keep Pushing Play!0 -
Thanks Brent! I sent you a friend request.0
