Hey - combat is an excellent full body and cardio workout that uses your own body weight as resistance. It is a mixed martial arts workout that focuses on maintaining your target heart rate for the whole class. You will push yourself to the limits!
It is high intensity and high results. It is possibly my favourite way of working out and I highly recommend it! Go with an open mind and be ready to kick some butt!0 -
I went back to Body Combat last night for the first time in ages - it was awesome!!! Definitely intense and hard...but it's so fun you don't want to give up. I still feel so good from it...and burnt heaps of calories! I'm going to make sure i go every week now!
You don't need a partner and you don't need gloves. There's a lot of punching combos, kicking, squats, lunges etc.
I definitely recommend it!0 -
Its the same instructor that teaches the step classes i go to so im hopeful i will like it! Thank you!0

I go to body combat at Goodlife Fitness. The instructor is a ball of fire and pushes us to our max!
It is by far my favourite class!
Hope you enjoy it!

As a martial artist (I do taekwondo and aikido at the moment), I view Body Combat with some mixed feelings. I'm a traditionalist in this regard. *lol* Don't get offended anyone!
The main focus seems to be on just moving your body. The fundamentals of the techniques, the spirit of budo, the finesse, power production.. In short, the whole "martial" and "art" parts are forgotten and only rough approximations of the movements remain!
On the other hand, it might reach out to a bit different type of people, who might get interested in the arts through it even if they might not otherwice.
In any case, I'm sure it's a heck of a cardio workout but If you're looking for self defence or sparring, thought, you'll need to go elsewhere..0 -

Thank you for the info but I am mainly looking to do it for a cardio work out to mix it up with step and spin,0 -

Then it should be perfect for you! :flowerforyou:0 -
I love this class! Sooooo much fun but very hard work.
It's perfect for people who want an aerobic workout but find aerobics classes too girly. Gets rid of all your tension and leaves you pumped up :happy:0 -
Combat is a great class. To be honest, the first couple of times I went I was so exhausted and out of breath I couldn't think of anything except how close I was to dying...
But after a few classes it suddenly popped into my head - "you know what, I'm actually enjoying this!" and now I love it!0 -
I went to my first class last nite along with my wife. I had planned on treadmill jogging for about an hour. According to my heart rate monitor, my levels on average were the same for the class as they were for an hour off treadmill jogging for an hour. The class was an hour long.
Very intense class throughout with a few slow down intervals. Both my wife and myself will be back next Monday as the classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays. I plan for this to be a new addition to my routine and I strongly recommend it.0 -
I have a blue belt in Tae Kwon Do and I fully enjoy the class and incorporating what I have learned from martial arts into my moves in the class.
Combat is high intensity workout that uses different moves from the arts to provide a full body cardio workout.
It is not a replacement or an insult to martial arts.

I do Body Combat as much as possible. I think the class is a great high intensity workout. You definitely feel the burn if you push your self!
I agree its not necessarily good form of learning martial arts, but it does touch on all the `ìdeas`and can really inspire you to want to learn!
For sure a class to check out!0
