I do great on my diet through the week. I eat a good breakfast. I pack my lunch and make sure to take plenty of healthy, low cal snacks so that I stay away from the vending machine. But the weekends are more difficult. The grandkids will be with me all weekend and they don't need to diet. I'll be cooking for and eating with them and the hubby (who also does not need to diet).

Where does your strength come from when you are surrounded by people who love to eat? I need some tips!

I hate weekends diet-wise, too. It doesn't matter that I continue to exercise and remain within my calorie limits, I still tend to weigh more on Monday morning than on Friday morning, but by Tuesday I'm usually back down. Just my body process, I guess!

My suggestion is portion control. If the grandkids need a snack, you can still pick something healthy for you - an apple, a yogurt, air-popped popcorn. I'm not a fan of the whole diet process, even though I'm essentially on one - I'm trying to view it as healthy lifestyle vs restricted eating. I don't cut out any food categories entirely - I still have cookies or chocolate, just not all day long like I used to!

You can set a good example for your grandkids and husband, too - they can get enough to eat but it doesn't have to be junk. There are a lot of really nice recipes out there that are healthy but not "diet". I have 2 adult children still at home & neither of them "diet" but they love what I fix. If you change your approach to fixing foods to make things that are better for everyone in general, everyone can eat them and you just eat a smaller portion to keep calories in check.

    Hope that helps!
  • Dont be afraid of the weekends sometimes what I do if my family is coming to visit or I go and visit my family I will have an idea of what are plans will be. And I know it is bad but we eat our bigger meals around 6pm at night (which I know is backwards) so I still eat my five meals healthy and low cal for first four meals and then eat somthing with the fam for dinner weither we go out to eat or my mom cooks I enjoy my dinner with them (but I dont over eat and still drink my water and my excerise in). Alot of healthy people will tell you to reward yourself for a day I just think by doing it this way feels better cause it is spead out over a weekend verse one whole day. I do it even if my fam is not coming in I like to be rewarded I get bord easy. Hope it helps you!

I agree, have one off day to reward yourself :) Nothing crazy like having 4 cheeseburgers or anything...but just some of the things you normally don't eat during the week. Otherwise, being sure to log on the weekend is key....and just measuring your foods like normal :) Just remember you want to be healthy and alive for a long time to see your grandkids grow up ...thats big time motivation :)

I am the same way. Weekends are harder as it is not so structured. But I have started to make healthier choices when going out to dinner and when eating at home. I do a majority of the cooking so I have started to use fresh ingredients and steer away from all the processed stuff. All the dinners I have been making are lower calorie and my husband does not seem to mind at all. I don't think he even knows!!!

    Good luck!!!
