Estimate of calories burned

So, I know I need a HRM. But, I don't have one yet. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I put 250 as my calories burned walking 2 miles, in the snow carrying my 17 pound infant (in an Ergo) would be a reasonable estimate? MFP, when I enter it gives me like 400+ calories burned but it just seems like too much to me... and without an HRM there is no way to know for certain obviously.

So, do you think 200-250 calories is a conservative estimate? I was walking yesterday in the snow, the same way for a much longer period and I estimated about that and today legs are so sore... and I realize since I am literally walking in snow since its all over the sidewalks I am working muscles I don't normally work.

Any input would be appreciated

:)

    It depends on your height, weight and age.

    Some assumptions I made using your profile:
    Female, Age: 30, Weight: 185+17 baby

    Assumed 3 MPH or approx. 40 mins to walk 2 miles.

    Based on various average HR;

    AHR 110 - 200 cals
    AHR 120 - 245 cals
    AHR 130 - 290 cals
    AHR 140 - 330 cals

    So using 250 cals is probably a little generous; 200 would be better.

    Ok great. Thanks! Good job on the estimate of time there :)

    I had no idea it could be estimated

    I figured 250 might be a little hopeful... thanks for the advice
