Is stove popped popcorn ok?

I feel so naive asking this but is stove popped popcorn an ok occasional snack? I did a search and looked through months worth of posts but most talked about seasoning and calories. I guess what I really want to know is if there is any reason to not have some in moderation. Does it not digest well? Will it cause me to retain water? I'm having a dang hard of a time finding the answer to this really simple question. I can find most anything but all the noise around popcorn has me stumped.
Thanks much!
Update note: Ok. I tried to write the word ****ens (like Charles, the author of A Christmas Carol) when I saw that it was bleeped out. Funny... I didn't even go anywhere close to that direction in my post. Oh well...

Stove top.....??? Just go with microwave...I know some people are really against it, but I've lost 74 lbs. and I eat it all the time....lol...just stay inside your calorie goal and enjoy some popcorn every now and then...0

Mm, stove top popcorn is delicious. Sure, most things are ok in moderation! It'd be a great treat (full of fiber too)!
Put a little melted real butter on top... delicious! Like the previous poster said, just keep within your calorie limit and you're gold.0 -
I prefer stove popped because my kernels pop better on the stove. I tried microwaved but it kept burning and making very small popcorns, not the big fluffy ones I get on the stove. I cut the amt of oil I use waaay down and use canola instead of anything else so I feel good about it. I think it's a very filling, low cal snack and I usually pair with a cheese stick for more fullness factor.0

I have an air popper and I love it! But when i eat popcorn it has to be with butter butter butter and I eat a lot of it. So its not really a healthy snack but I let myself do it on occasion. If it don't give myself treats then I rebel and eat everything in the whooole world0

I think as long as you don't use excessive amounts of oil to pop it and you log the amount you eat, it should be fine.
FYI - the regular popcorn sold by the Boy Scouts is the best popping corn I've ever tasted. They love to see me come to their table!0 -
I appreciate your frustration with the noise!
One site I like for confusing nutritional questions is, "http://nutritiondata.self.com/". Very straightforward nutrition facts, plus ratings on such things as weight loss (1 to 5 stars), glycemic index, a "fullness factor (1 - 5) the caloric ratio of fat/protein/carbs in a nice little triangle graph, and some really really detailed nutrition information if you're tracking micronutrients like pantothenic acid (whaa????) or choline intake. . . . .
So for your oil-popped popcorn: see http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/snacks/7562/2
Looks like reasonable calories, good fiber count, 2 "weight loss" stars (out of 5), 1.7 on the "fullness factor" (out of 5) and not much in the micronutrient area.
It ain't a superfood like spinach (http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2631/2), but a heck of a lot better than a Snickers Bar! (http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/sweets/5461/2). And who wants to snack on spinach, anyway?!0
