Some brief background:
I'm 5'6" with a SW of 170-ish lbs. Before this I hadn't exercised in a good 10 years. I'm 29.
I started this process, but wasn't overly committed to it, at the beginning of December 2010. I was exercising 4-5 times a week, and watching my calorie intake. Insert the holidays, where I was conscious of my food but not at all strict. I also fell off the exercise bandwagon. However, during that first 5 weeks I dropped a total of 3 lbs. Also note that I had gone from 2-3 cokes a day to no cokes, and slowly but surely increasing my water intake.
On January 10th....just this last Monday....I started to again really pay attention to my calories / exercise / water intake. This week has been astounding. I have been right at, or a little over, my goal net calories for the day (1200). I started the 30 day shred on Monday as well. I have been drinking 2 liters of water a day. And today, I found out that I have lost, since last Friday, a little under 8 lbs??? This seems obscenely high to me, and I'm not quite sure how to take it. Could that ALL be attributed to water weight??
I'm was expecting somewhere in the range of 1-3... I don't want to screw this up! On the other hand, I can't tell a lick of a difference between my body in the mirror and the one in my "start" photos...is it too soon to be expecting my inner Beyonce to show signs of life??
My kind and wise fellow MFP-ers....your advice / thoughts would be appreciated! And good luck heading into the weekend - I know I'll need it!!!!

Well, I can tell you that my inner Beyonce has not appeared yet, either, and I'm down 25 pounds. So I wouldn't be looking for her yet. I don't see much difference in my progress pics but my clothes tell a different story. I don't think it's unusual to have a drastic weight loss the first week. Mine was something crazy like that as well. Just don't expect it to continue that way. You've jump started your weight loss and your metabolism and from here on out it will be less dramatic from week to week.0

So everything I have read about weight loss says that the first couple of pounds come off pretty easily and then it sort of plateaus. Either way, shocked or not, HELL YES! Congratulations and keep up the good work. I joined a weightloss challenge at work to keep me motivated and the jackpot is like $500. If someone told me they would pay me $500 to lose weight I surely would. I just have to keep telling myself that e.v.e.r.y. day! PROUD OF YOU!0
