I feel terrible

Last night when we went out of town for the evening, my hubby saw his favorite fast food place so we had to stop there. We hadn't eaten there in two years, so it sounded good. It tasted good going down and I ate too much. All night and this morning I feel SOOO bad, physically. I think I just hadn't eaten stuff like that in awhile and my body is freaking out. I have an upset stomach and I feel so weak. The food severely dehydrated me so I am trying to drink a lot of water this morning.
The problem is that I know I will go eat junk again and will be craving it again in a week. So how can I learn to pick healthy things when I go out when I am really craving junk? I try to remind myself about how it tears up my stomach but that doesn't help!
I am posting this for two reasons: for encouragement and to remind you all not to do something stupid like I did!

Mechanicmom, We can give you all the support you need, and we will, but in the end it comes down to you finding out what will help you stand strong against the urges. Some of us fight by not going near the temptation, some of us use reminders, some of us use replacements (like turkey burgers instead of hamburgers). We are here for you, and by now you know that 1 bad day won't ruin your program, but in the end you need to find out what works for you. So reminding yourself doesn't work for you, maybe something else will. I know for me, watching fast food nation once a month or so eliminates any desire I have for fast food! (the funny part is, I'm not at all against the beef industry, this is just the grossest and most horrible thing I have ever seen). You want a powerful tool against eating fast food? Watch that movie and don't avert your eyes at the end, THAT will give you something to think about.0

Glad you're here, mechanic!
Isn't it crazy how food can rule our lives? If you are persuaded (or choose) to go to a fast food restaurant, maybe next time, you can go to one like Wendy's. They have lots of lower-fat alternatives than most. Even McDonald's has yummy salads and alternatives to a big mac and fries. Unfortunately for me, if I get a Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad at McD's, I usually get a large fry and a nugget to go with it. So now, I just don't tempt myself. Once in a while, I have something so bad for me. It's moderation that is the key. We can't be expected to drop everything all of a sudden. We need to moderate our intake of it until we can kick it out of our lives forever.
Does that make sense? You are doing the right thing by drinking water and starting over.
Keep up the good work!0 -
You are not the only one! I thought I could resist the candy last night, but then the Reese's got opened and that was the end of that. And not just one - a whole bunch!
You are humna, we all make mistakes and the fast food industry has made their crap SOOOO inviting! The fries smell good, the places are convenient and all over the place - if it happens don't beat yourself up! I agree with cardgrl, you are doing the right thing already by starting over. Every day is a new opportunity!0 -
Whenever I screw up, I try to remind myself to live out of my future rather than my past (mistakes). Don't be too hard on yourself! Like time2wrk said, today's a new opportunity . . .0

First off do not let one night of eating junkfood derail you. It was one night. You are hurting today.
Remember how you are feeling NOW, and the cravings will not be as tough.
When the family wants to go for fastfood, I have learned to special order my food items. IE Grilled chicken insteead of the whopper. NO MAYO just mustard. Oh and give me a fork, because I am not eating this with the bun. If you tell them that you are not eating the bun culd they POSSIBLY add extra lettuce to that. I have found that more often then not, they do.
For some reason, my body does not digest red meat like it used to.
If that is age, or that I do not eat red meat any more, I am not sure. But when I do I suffer the next day.
Good idea to drink the water. Wash out those toxins...
One more thing, just because...Are you the ONLY one not feeling well?
If you are not, you MAY want to get a quick check up and make sure it was not a case of food poisioning.
Please pardon my motherhen-ness.

Food poisoning had crossed my mind since my hubby just got over food poisoning last weekend! But no one else is having a problem, so it must just be me.0

Mechanicmom - We must have been on the same page lately. I had that stinking donut and I really did feel quite ill afterward. I keep thinking back to my college psych classes and Pavlov's experiments. If we have an immediate consequence to doing something wrong several times, we learn our lesson. I'm waiting for that lesson to kick in. Actually I think it will because it is like pollution in our body. When we are healthy enough for long enough, we will recognize better the errors of our past ways and keep the crap out - dang it! Now, if it would only come sooner.....
Awareness is a huge key to success. Validation of what we have done and what we are aiming to do will get us there.0 -
Okay, I guess I have a stomach bug or a mild case of food poisoning. I'm still sick today. I hope I am better by tomorrow so I can start working out again. I hate sitting around all day! But I haven't been able to eat much so maybe I will lose a couple of pounds.0

I am so sorry, I was worried about that. :frown:
There is one way I have discovered to know if it was food poisioning without going to the doctor first. NOW THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE, BUT IT IS WORTH A SHOT.
Remember everything that you ate that night.
Imagine it sits before you but in sections. IE you had a burger. so see the bun on one plate, the onion on another, the lettuce on another, the burger on yet another. etc
Go to each plate and note how you feel about each item. If you would eat any of those items right now without hisitation, it was not likely food poisioning, HOWEVER, if you see one thing and your tummy turns and you think to yourself. Ooooo there is no WAY I am touching that.
THEN it was more then likely food poisioning.
But still go to a doctor if you are not feeling back to norm by Saturday.
