I have a really old hrm (about 10 yrs old) and it either tells me my hrm is 70 or 245! Either I have heart problems or its just wrong.

Can anyone recommend one that ideally has a chest strap,

counts calories from a low hrm (mine only logs above 90bpm)

has gps tracking for logging training runs on computer

Any advice would be appreciated - or likewise any hrm to stay away from!!

Polar brand is considered a favorite by people on these boards. I use one (not with GPS) and like it. Some of the more expensive models have pretty nifty features, and some come with are compatible with their GPS device (you have to buy the GPS piece separate though... $$) If you have a smart phone, you might consider buying a HRM without a GPS device and then using a phone app like endomondo to track your distance/speed on runs. I LOVE endomondo - and it's FREE!

I am not sure if Polar has the gps deal but I love my Polar F4 model...there are newer ones, but it works great!

I have a POLAR hrm that i love - you can set your min and max hr, it tells you how many calories burned, gives you a summary of every workout, and a summary of weekly stats at the end of the week. its pricey - about 100$, but worth it!

I like my Polar Ft-40. Pair that with an iPhone and the Runkeeper Pro app (usually $10 but free until the end of January) and you have all that you are looking for. It does track your calories at a low heart rate. I am restricted from overworking my heart and had the HRM set by the good folks at the cardiac rehab program at the local hospital.

I had no idea there were so many types! i've been looking at the polar ones and they look good, can't decide between a runners watch now or a fitness one...
