edited September 2024 in Introduce Yourself
Hi everyone,
My name is Tim. First off, let me apologize for the length of this post. Putting the following to words helps me to commit myself to this journey which I know will be lengthy and full of obstacles. I began myfitnesspal January 5, 2011 but my journey actually began in September of 2010. The last time I weighed myself in the fall of 2010 was around the end of August and I was at the heaviest point of my life. I have not always been overweight but over the last 10 years of so have been steadily packing it on. I quit smoking in January of 2005 and very soon thereafter gained an additional 60 pounds.

I am a detective in a good sized department and 2010 was an extremely tough year for us. We had multiple officers shot and killed. My primary assignment was in our child sex crimes unit. I had been in this unit for about 6 years at this time and for those of you that are not familiar with this type investigation, that is a very long time. All these stressors gradually took its toll. In September, I decided to transfer because of these stressors and a personal conflict I was having with a coworker. The thing is, I didn't want to leave. That assignment has been the most satisfying of my career and was not looking forward to a transfer.

Once I transferred, I fell into somewhat of a funk and did not really associate with anyone. This was actually a blessing in disguise. Up to this point, I went out to lunch with the others every single day. Every late night or early morning call out would end up eating lousy food. After the transfer, I lost my appetite and began to grab a meal replacement smoothie for lunch and my dinner portions really got cut back. By Thanksgiving I had lost about 25 pounds and it was noticeable to others. I ended up wearing pants that I hadn’t worn in years and had to add 3 notches on my belt. My goal now was to not gain any weight during the holidays and I was successful at this. I finally went back to the gym that I had not been to in over a year and got back into playing racquetball.

For Christmas I got an itouch. I was going through the free apps and found myfitnesspal and began lurking until January 5th when I began to log my meals and exercise. I am using my September 2010 weight as my starting weight and will never be that heavy again.

So, thanks for reading and I look forward to sharing along this journey.

How do I include my SW, CW, GW, etc.. at the end of my post like I see in some others? Is this something I just need to physically type in each time I post something?
