Healthy places to eat out?

I will be traveling all week. Hotels and lots of windshield time. Are there decent places to stop to get semi healthy quick meals? I've been doing really well but when I can't cook for myself I see the challenge that is ahead. I will be in FL if there are any specific regional places.

Having traveled a lot on business it is best to go with the local places - not the chains. Seafood is great in FL. Just special order it broiled or baked with no butter. If you don't eat seafood - go with chicken - or even a lean pork (tenderloin) As for sides - I usually just ask for double veggies and no starch. Most places will accomodate us without a problem - and some even have healthy items on the menu. Water, water, water - even with special order there is lots of sodium when you eat out. Good luck!

Lots of restaurant chains have nutritional info online, or on their actual menu. I would research the area and find out what restaurants are in the vicinity of where you'll be. I know that Applebee's has an "under 550 calorie" menu.

It's tough when you're traveling. Applebees has an under 550 cal menu, taco bell has a new low cal menu & panera bread is always a good option too. Good Luck. Be sure to bring healthy snacks along with you.
  • Well you can always go in to the food data base and plug in resturants and pull different items up~ I know I was looking yesterday. At longhorn they have a citrus grilled chicken that was not to bad, and of course I am loving the applebees under 550!!! I had the Steak and garlic shrimp the other night and was VERY satisfied! Here in South Georgia we have a community challenge going on called "Team Lean" and alot of our resturants have the "team lean" menu! Hope it helps! I do know you are better off getting a hamburger and veggies at applebees over the dang oriental chicken salad :noway: !

Larger restaurant chains typically have their nutritional information available online. Panera Bread is one that does. Other than high sodium, Panera is pretty good. But I always try to view the nutrition data ahead of eating out. There are also standard menu choice guidelines for eating out anywhere. A quick search of the web will provide these. Things like baked or broiled, not fried. No sauces or dressings, or on the side. Good luck and hope you enjoy your trip!

The Applebees 550 menu is awesome and they're totally willing to work with you to substitute things. Chili's has a "Guiltless Grill" or something like that, too. Almost any place will definitely make changes to food if you need it - you just have to ask! :)
  • I love Panera Bread!!! They're so awesome. (:
  • Subway for lunch/breakfast too.
