I am excited about being in charge of "The Biggest Loser Challenge" at work. I am the school nurse at a high school...I have recruited 23 other people to do a 8 week weight loss challenge. This past friday was weigh in and I have calculated the total weight of all 24 of us and it equal 4842lbs!!! We have a lot to lose!!! The lightest person is 127lbs and the heaviest person is 316lbs. If anyone has any suggestions on how to keep everyone involved and motivated please feel free to share :)

Not sure I can give any advice but it is fummy that you posted that because I got with a few people at work and I am starting a BIggest Loser at work as well. I am preparing my mission statement today. My plan is for everyone to get with me every friday morning and give me there results for the week. I will make a chart and everyone who is on the team witll know of eveyone else that way eveyone can help each other, I am not going to tell them until tomorrow but my first goal is for the team as a whole to lose 10 lbs the first week. Then every week I will set another goal.

We have a Biggest Loser at my workplace. We each paid $10. The person with the highest percentage wt lost and hte person w/ the most pounds lost split the cash at the end. We have weekly weigh-ins monitored by 1 person that also sends out a weekly update on what the top numbers are.

have them bring their own lunch and maybe once a week go out and eat and motivate each other to eat healthy. when i used to work i would get an hr lunch break so i would walk for 30 min and the other 30 min i ate my lunch. have them walk in pair so they can conversate and make it a little fun. maybe have challenges on see who can put in more miles during lunch time. also give them challenges at home to eat better and exercise. you can do one week a push up callenge and see who can do the most push up and who can do the most variaty of push ups. the next week do lunges. target different body parts. theres so many things you can do.

We also paid $10 a person. The person with highest percentage loss at the end of 8 weeks and the team with the highest percentage loss will split the money. I am trying to think of things to do between now and the end...maybe like a fitness challenge after school one day and the team that wins can have 2lbs given to them?? Something like what the real show does. I want to make it fun and interesting. Strybt, that's a good idea of a goal for each week...I might have to throw that out to the teams.
  • My work leadership actually "sponsored" a biggest loser challenge at work. It was set up like this:

    1. Initial weigh in on Monday, 10/11 recorded by a "witness" from Human Resources or management
    2. Each week, the top 3 percentage weight loss individuals get $10 gift cards from local stores
    3. Teams of 4 can compete for monthly "team prize" of $50 per team member (total percentage lost in the 4 week period)
    4. Overall individual winner gets $1000

To my company, it was a small investment that motivated over 220 people to sign up (and complete a form clearing the company from any risk), and then everyone weighs in on Monday or Tuesday. All the weights are tracked in a giant spreadsheet.

In the first week, the group lost over 400 pounds. Week 2 was more like 200 pounds, and each week declined thereafter. But many of us, including myself, have used the motivation (and teamwork inspiration) to lose weight. One guy on my team lost 45 pounds in the 3 month contest - ends today - and I personally lost 31 pounds.

Overall, it was a huge success for my company because it created a community culture where we were all supportive of one another in this overall weight loss goal.

My company also agreed to "match" the total pounds lost with food donations in pounds to the local homeless shelters. I think in the end, the group combined will have lost more than 600 pounds, so a very decent donation will be made to the shelters as a result of the collective efforts.

Sure... many of the people "dropped out" or stopped weighing in for whatever reason... but the Human Resource department told me that over 40 of the original 220 stayed in the program and weighed every week. Collectively, we are a lot more healthy now than we were 90 days ago.

I recommend it to any company.

We started ours at work last week. Only about 20 or so people in our office signed up (out of about 90), but we're doing it. HR is handling it and we weigh in each week on Monday. I lost 1.6 pounds this first week. I'm not the biggest loser this week, (we don't have the email yet telling us who is in the lead), but I know I'm not "below the yellow line" either. :-)

We just get emails with tips in them. We have small prizes, but with having our own personal trainer here at work, that is enough extra to keep everyone going.

    Good luck!

do you have a spreadsheet set up already???
i have a template if you want to use it...just email me at bluiz13@bellsouth.net and i'll send it to you...i have done several of these challenges with friends in my area...they people involved have to want to do the work...you can't make it "fun" for them....just encourage, offer challenges - like drink 64+oz of water a day, meet up for an exercise challenge like on the show, have a fun weigh in meeting, share recipes for healthy foods, maybe prepare one and share at your weigh-in....

i agree with the pay suggestion...each person pays to join and the winner gets the POT...

I have created a spread sheet, thanks for the offer. I have created it thru excel and it shows each week and percentage loss for each week and total weigh loss. :)

That's great what your work has done with contributing money. I work for a school so there is no funding so for us it's what we put into it.

There is about 110 people where I work and only 24 are participating. I like the idea of emailing tidbits to the losers. I am hoping people join me after school and do some exercising on the track or in the weight room.
  • We each donated $10 to participate and half of the money will go to highest percent in 6 weeks the rest to the biggest loser in 12. :)
