Free Cupcake Day - Help! :/

It's free cupcake day at a local gourmet bakery, and my roommates are all going to get cupcakes. :(

Should I get one as well? The bakery doesn't provide nutrition facts, so there's no telling what could be in them. However I don't want to feel deprived, and even if I leave some room in my calorie count, I know that there will be a TON of fat and sugar in them.

What should I do? Help! x_x

I bake a lot and when i'm figuring out baked good's calories it seems like cupcakes are usually around 400-475

if they realllly pile the icing on and its butter cream add an extra 75 cal or more.

Thats for a regular sized cupcake made with real butter, and butter in the icing

Honestly, when I really want a cupcake, I get a cupcake. The bakery here piles them so high with delicious made-from-scratch frosting that if I ate the entire cupcake at once, I'd probably get sick (or just feel really awful). So I actually cut them in half. It's a bit messy, but I eat the first half until I am satisfied, throw away the rest, and stick the second half in a plastic container and freeze it for another day.

    Is it the Cupcake Station?!

I say buy yourself the mini version of the cupcake you want and consider that a big step forward! :) If you pay for it, you'll enjoy it even more and the fact that it's smaller with be way less calories!!
  • As the saying go "nothing tastes as good as thin feels"...

BUT you can't deprive yourself either. Its okay to have something every once in awhile. Maybe only eat half or take some of the icing off?? Or just make it a goal to burn off the calories with an intense workout.

I would get one, cut it in half and tell your roommies you want part for your lunch tomorrow or something.

And not to be difficult but

I like the idea of cutting it in 1/2 and freezing it for another day - is the texture still good when you defrost?

My thought: do they have the miniature cupcakes? If so, allow yourself one and call it 200 calories. If not, decide if you can afford 300-500 calories for a normal sized cupcake (the large ones could be even bigger) - if so, eat it and enjoy it. If not, perhaps treat yourself to something else alltogether - like a piece of a high quality chocolate.

Hope this helps a litte... cupcakes are one of my weaknesses. That said, since I've been eating healthier, the local bakery gourmet ones taste awfully salty... (and so not quite as good as I remember).

kerriBB: Yes, it is the Cupcake Station lol.

I love the ideas for a mini cupcake and a workout. The more I think about it, the worse it will end up being if I deprive myself. Thanks everyone!
  • I never deny a craving because it just builds up until you can’t resist and then you binge which is not good. I second the idea of cutting it up and eating a portion save the rest for the next craving. Little indulgences help curb the cravings and don't add as many calories to your daily total as eating the whole thing at one time.

Yup. I just leave it on a cake plate (covered) for awhile and it's as wonderful as freshly bought :)

I just made cupcakes and with no frosting they are 170 calories each. I'd say go for it. I lose more weight on the weeks when I have a "cheat day/meal" than when I don't anyway.

AH yes, it is hard being their friend on Facebook! My boyfriends sister is the head pastry chef at the Birmingham store. SHE BRINGS THOSE DAMN CUPCAKES TO EVERY SINGLE FAMILY FUNCTION! As much as I LOVE them I have asked her to make me the mini ones :) The carrot cake and the Oreo ones are my FAVE! Maybe you can count the carrot one as a vegetable ;)

    Enjoy!!
