Help!! How many calories am I REALLY burning?

Options
I think my calories burned is off b/c the machine says it is set to record calories for someone weighing 150 lbs. Does anyone know how to figure out how many calories I am really burning?

Your best bet is to invest in a Heart Rate Monitor. The numbers on a machine are set to a certain body type and unless it is constantly monitoring your heart rate, and has the proper weight and age for you then it isn't going to be accurate.

    I personally like:

    OR

**EDIT: And I agree that a HRM is the most accurate way, but for the time-being these should do the job***

I just went and bought a garmin heart rate/calorie counter watch on ebay. you put in your weight, height and how active you are and it calculates it for you. that way even if I'm doing a work out video I can still get an accurate calories burned =)

What machine are you referring to? I have found that a HRM works the best to calculate calories burned. Some people go for the one with the chest strap and some go for the watch version. Find the one that suits you best. I have a watch HRM and when I am working out, I let it check my pulse every 3 or 4 minutes (it takes 5 seconds and I don't have to stop moving during) for an accurate count. I have a pink and grey one from New Balance. Good luck!
