Could I eat ice cream everyday & still lose weight?

I have had the worst sweet tooth everyday this week. My sugar of choice, ice cream (Mmm...). I've eaten some everyday this week. Now granted, I only eat 1/2 c. or 1 c. depending on my calories & I haven't let it make me go over my calories either.
Is it ok to eat a serving of ice cream everyday if I fit it into my daily allotted calories?

I say YES ABSOLUTELY!! If if's just a treat in moderation within your calories and the rest of your day is balanced with a variety of fruits, veggies.....etc etc you know the healthy stuff. WHY not!!
ENJOY!0 -
I have ice cream almost every night0

I'm not a nutritionist by any means but if you keep portion control and it's within your calorie intake-go for it. I'm not sure if you track sugar, but that may be something to watch out for. I have a really hard time with my sugar intake and I don't have a sweet tooth.0

Calories in vs calories out determines weight loss. You could lose weight if you ate all 1200 calories in Snickers and ice cream. But because these foods don't contain many things that are very good for you, it wouldn't be a wise choice. Just be sure to allow for your ice cream and measure it to be sure how much you are eating. Skinny Cow makes a WONDERFUL ice cream cup in several different flavors that only have 150-170 calories! They are YUMMY!!!0

as long as you stay within your calories i dont see why not, enjoy the ice cream!!!!0

Ive had ice cream almost every night since I re-started MFP, 18 days ago. Its better thant he glass of wine I ususally enjoyed each night, and I only have the ice cream (Skinny Cow mint ice cream sandwich..to. die. for. or Great Value chocolate ice cream cups) if it fits into my daily allowance
Ive lost 5 lbs in 18 days.0 -
Of course! Now, I don't think I'd endorse an ALL ice cream diet, but I bet you'd even lose weight if that was all you ate as long as you didn't eat too much of it...I believe that moderation is key!0

I would say YES, as long as you are not going over in your calories for the day and make good choices otherwise you will be fine.0

Good, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I just really love ice cream.0 -
Yep!!
So long as your within your daily allotment and are mindful of your serving size, absolutely.

I was struggling w/that too so I took that catagory off my list. I have a lot of weight to lose so I'm gonna focus on just counting cals for now & slowly keep fine-tuning my diet over time until it's better balanced.0 -

Totally agree..
It's all about moderation and keeping your energy consumed in check with what you are burning..
Just posted something similar to my blog about the twinkie diet:
So a researcher (Mark Haub) had the following changes in 2 months:
27 pounds (decrease)
20% LDL (decrease)
20% HDL (increase)
8.5 Body Fat Reduction...
Okay, so the results are "good", so what...
His diet was based upon Twinkies, Doritos, etc with the same level of moderate exercise. The trick? On a typical day his total Calories were 1,589 and 59 grams of fat in diet. So for his body type his was deficent in calories.
Obviously, it's not time to start a twinkie diet -- there would be serious health concerns about doing this.
It does, however, drive home some good points.
1. Total Calories count: :Low carb, low fat, and other various diet plans will result in weight loss. I had some pretty quickweight loss with a low carb diet. However, total intake is a key factor and moderation is crucial. You can eat too much of a "good" food!
2. Loosing weight matters. It can improve choleserol and other health markers like blood sugars levels and blood pressure.
3. Demonization? Eating JUNK FOOD every now and then is okay -- just keep track of what you are doing and don't make it habital/everday event.
4. Exercise counts... Calories Consumed - Calories Burned. Start ****ing the equation in your favor. Perhaps I will post more on some of the exercises that seemed to work best for me a bit later.
So take heart and be sensible! This website provides a great tool for helping monitor and be aware of our daily food/nutritional choices.

Yes! You deserve a small treat!0

I say anything in moderation is OK, but at least make it good ice cream with the least amount of processed stuff. I love Breyer's Natural Vanilla. It has milk, sugar, cream, vanilla and one other ingredient - can't remember - but it's simple.
Lately my sweet tooth curber of choice has been a bowl of chocolate cheerios and skim milk.0 -
Yup - you can lose weight, but you probably won't get all the nutrients you need to be healthy.0

You can get the nutrients you need for your body with everything else you ingest for the day
Typically I eat skinny cow, weight watcher's, or breyers smooth & dreamy bars.0 -
Yep! Perfectly fine! I have chocolate almost every single day... Sometimes I have an entire hershey's chocolate bar. Lol. I'll spend my calories on what I want, thank you. :P I have had the biggest sweet tooth too lately, so some days my entire food diary is filed with candy, cookies, and ice-cream (oh and poptarts too!). I pay for it later when I realize that I only have a 100 or so calories left for dinner. Sigh! Glad to say that the tooth is being tamed with some peanut butter cereal in the morning now!
Anyways, just make sure you have enough for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Haha.0 -

i woud say yes i've lost 40 lbs before (gained 60 lbs though) and i ate anything i wanted as long as it was within my calorie limit and i exercised and i personally think dairy is good for you and it's good to get your craving out of the way as long as you don't go overboard and end up overeating there are low calorie ice creams though i've seen0
-
Absolutely. I eat a small bit of ice cream probably 5-6 night a week.0

I was just introduced to Arctic Zero ice cream substitute. It's a bit on the icy side and not as creamy as regular ice cream. But, it's only 150 calories for the entire pint! :drinker: It's lactose intolerant friendly since it's made from Whey Protein Concentrate and not milk. I've only had it a couple of times now and like to blend it with a little protein powder and almond or peanut butter. Then it becomes a tasty little milkshake "meal" (with protein & good fats) instead of just an empty dessert.0

If you run at least twice a week sure it will be fine if no excersise its not healthy for you and you will start to gain weight.0

Yay for necro'ing a 3.5 yo thread as a first post :drinker:0

Hi faithheals. You're going to find that the search function on this site doesn't take recency into account when ordering the results. It's generally considered good manners here to double-check the time stamp on the top left of a post to make sure it's still active before bumping an old thread.
Also, no, eating ice cream without exercise won't automatically cause you to gain weight as long as you're still within your calorie and nutrition goals for the week.0 -
YES. I often exercise entirely so that I can have some ice cream in the evening. Am I losing weight? See ticker :laugh:0
-
I can not do it. I can not keep the stuff in my house. Just like when I quit smoking, portion control would not work for that.:laugh:0
-
Short answer is yes u will lose as long as u keep to your calorie count so that u are using up more kcals than u are taking in eat what u want whether its necessarily healthy to eat everyday perhaps not im more a fan of everything in moderation0
