hi,

i'm 29 yr old female, 5 ft 1 inch and weigh 112lbs. I run three times a week (following Gateway to 8k plan) and walk to and from work most days (30 minute walk each way) and i'm not really trying to lose actual weight but i'm trying to tone up more than anything. anyway, MFP says my calorie limit is 1200 per day, which seems really low, what does anyone else think?? i usually actually end up eating about 1500 as I eat the calories back that I burn from excercise.

it's not that i'm hungry on these calories but I just wen to another site, marathon rookie and inputed my info, it told me i should be eating 1760 calories per day...big difference!!!!

what do people think?

  • Go to your goals and make sure you are "maintaining weight" not loosing weight. That should fix it:)

You're being told the same thing by both sites - 1200 is your calorie intake required to maintain your weight if you are sitting on your butt all day long (it may even be less than that at your height/weight, but this site has a floor at 1200 and never recommends anything below that). That's why MyFitnessPal encourages members to eat their exercise calories. The other site probably took your exercise habits into account BEFORE recommending the 1760 per day calorie consumption.

So either way you look at it is about the same: eat 1200 calories plus your exercise calories, or eat 1760 calories per day.

I have pretty much the same stats as you, and when I'm trying to lose weight I get 1200 calories a day if I don't exercise (more if I do). When I'm trying to maintain weight, I get 1600 calories a day if I don't exercise. So if you haven't already, do what 123nikki123 said and change your goals if you're not looking to lose weight.

Also when you record your running exercise the system will give you more calories (whatever you burn) and then you can eat them too. E.g. I'm on 1200 cals, if I go for a run and burn 400 the system changes my intake to 1600 cal for the day - I'm trying to loose so don't eat it all back but you totally can :)
