Im a 20 year old female. I started last Monday at 215 (im 5 7 1/2) a bit big, i know. i weighed myself lastnight, and im 203? 12 lbs in 9 days? Don't get me wrong, im not complaining, but i am wondering how that happend lol.
I cut soda out of my diet, and i have gone to the gym 5 days in a row now, but i havn't been killing myself at the gym, and i certainly eat just about every calorie i get on my 1200 calorie limit. i've also switched from not drinking a glass of water for months to atleast 10 a day..
im sure alot of it was water weight but 12 pounds? REALLY? anyone know what could have caused this?

Did you just start working out/eating better? Because people ALWAYS lose lots the first week or two. It is mostly all water.0

From what it sounds like, you've made some major lifestyle changes that your body is responding too. A majority of it might be water weight which is normal for the first week. While it is a high number, it's not too surprising considering what you are doing. I'm sure next week won't be as high, but keep it up and you should see steady losses! Good job!!
ETA - you SHOULD eat every calorie of your 1200 goal. 1200 is the bare minimum...if you are working out you should eat at least some of the calories you burned from exercise too. If you don't, eventually it'll catch up to you and you'll slow down/stop losing because your body NEEDS those calories. Just something to keep in mind!0 -
Firstly, congratulations on taking such a massive step in sorting out your health! I hope you're already feeling better for it
I believe it is fairly common to lose a big chunk of weight the first couple of weeks. I've seen other posts where people have lost 7-10 lbs in the first week or two. Actually even up to the first month, if you have a lot of weight to lose, the first 20 lbs will just "fall off".
However this does stabalise after the first month and then you'll be back to losing 1-2 lbs/week.
Hope this helps!0 -
Hey,
it's very well possible to lose that much at the beginning, but don't expect it to stay that way :-/
I guess it's our body's way to give us a motivational kick so we go on and don't give up ;-)
Keep going!

I lost 16 lbs my first two weeks. I think it's just our bodies adjusting to a new healthy lifestyle:)0

im 20 days in and have dropped 16 pounds. The initial water weight loss was huge for me. Now its coming off slower, because i no longer carry all the extra water weight.
Eat your calories, drink that water, and get your exercise in and it will continue to drop.0 -
Wow, sounds amazing! a nice big loss to motivate you further, mine was only 5 lbs in the first week, but everyone is different I'm 5"7 1/2 too, and weighed in today at 200.5, its steadily coming down now. I'll add you as a friend0

You exercise now, you greatly reduced your sodium intake (and the sugar involved) by giving up sodas, and you are washing your taxins out with loads of healthy water. Your body has responded enthusiastically, so cheer for that! Your weight will slow down to about 1 lb per week, more or less. This is a really good thing. Steady weight loss is easier to keep off after you have attained your goal--you will have had weeks or months of practice on what to eat, how to fix it healthily, and what to avoid (most of the time).
Congratulations on a really good start. Have fun during your continued health improvement program! :drinker: (water)0 -
I lost about 9 lbs for the first week and then it dropped to 4 lbs for the second week.
This isnt unusual - the first weeks are your body in detox, some will say water loss, also if you have reduced what you are eating you will have less mass to digest.
Over time as you exercise more then you might see a weight lost of less than expected due to conversion of fat to muscle, muscle is more dense than fat so your body can become more toned and trim with out loosing from your weight.
Have you started measuring yourself - this is one way to help keep track of trim-ness. Also you may start to feel you have more energy, feel lighter on your feet, sleep better etc.... I sleep an hour less each day now and feel much more energised !0 -
IF you were just getting over you TOM you could have been artificially higher when you started too.
The biggest thing from here is that you don't get discouraged when it tapers off. That is some huge motivation, though, huh?
Congrats and best wishes.0 -
